1967 International Harvester 1100B Pickup
You know what the problem is with this country? You can no longer
buy road vehicles made by a manufacturer of farm equipment, that's
what's wrong! Maybe it's time for Ford to bring back the Fordson
tractor, though that wouldn't be the same. I was reminded of the
sad lack of vehicles with combine harvesters in their lineage when
we got this IH pickup in our hallowed halls.
For consignment in it's resprayed and restored glory, an
International Harvester 1100B from 1967. The consigner took matters
into his own hands and set to work out previous problems, and now
we give you this nice example. With binders provided on maintenance
and the rebuild, you can watch history unfold as you leaf through
the pages, and think to yourself, "geez I'm really lucky it's
already finished!"
Exterior
Metal panels were worked to straight and rust free than draped in
red paint. The panels are all good and do show some rust creeping
in on the bed portion of this truck, particularly on the driver's
side behind the wheel well it is rusted through. The bumpers, and
front grille are presenting in white painted metal and there is a
shiny diamond plate running board below each door to help you get
in. Just behind the cab are chromed big rig exhaust stacks that
pierce through a diamond plate in front of the bed. Also is a
custom fabricated toolbox in shiny diamond plate in the front of
the bed. A large aluminum ribbed tonneau cover is covering the bed
as well. Large 15-inch white wagon wheels 4 corners, and they are
wrapped with 265/75-R15 deep treaded rubber. A nice high stance,
some chromed add on trimmings like mirrors and doorknobs, and of
course those impressive dual stacks.
Interior
It is not very often this writer decides to start with the
headliner, but in this case, it is definitely warranted. Buttoned
tufted shiny white vinyl makes up the headliner, and it has a
modern LED pin light for each passenger mounted in the center. A
definite custom, thoughtful, and artistic interpretation for a
headliner. A bench seat in various shades of red and white is
courtesy of NOS 59 Chevy Impala material. The dual eyebrow original
dash is very clean and has nice rounded simple gauges in a black
field. Above is a red padded vinyl dash top, and below is a cream
painted metal strip for all the knobs and buttons. Hanging below
the center of the dash is an aftermarket digital AM/FM/CD player
with additional speakers mounted above the rear glass of the cab.
Deep red carpet clovers the floors, and has IH badged black floor
mats to protect all its red glory.
Drivetrain
A 304ci V8 sits in an original looking engine bay which is nicely
preserved. On top is a single 2-barrel carburetor, and in back a T4
3-speed manual transmission which pushes power rearward, to a 4.09
rear axle, and forward if you desire through a TC141 transfer case.
You've gotta love the black INTERNATIONAL script type in your
grandmother's handwriting on the valve covers.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust and road dirt on the floorpans and rockers but a
strong frame and undercarriage overall. Leaf spring suspension all
around as are drum brakes on all 4 corners . A dual exhaust with
turbo mufflers is also noted.
Drive-Ability
Its always a kick to get behind the wheel of these high lifted 4WD
trucks and this one was truly a pleasurable experience. It lit
right up, and we were off for the test track where it performed
beautifully. Good solid handling, nice acceleration, and even a
fairly smooth cruise. A truly comfortable interior and that snazzy
headliner left this test driver with a smile. Those snazzy 59
Impala seats do not hurt either! We did note the heater which is
rusted as inoperable.
Grab your gear and groover, throw your stuff in the bed, and enter
this go anywhere, through anything IH 4 wheeler, and you can only
dream of the adventure you'll cook up to put this restored truck
through its paces. And you'll do it in vintage custom color, snappy
interior, and 4WD style circa 1967.
