Why This Car Is Special

The 1968 Chevelle we have here at Skyway Classics is a real deal SS 396 car. This 1968 Chevelle is a true 138 VIN Chevelle SS 396 model that was produced at GM's Baltimore, Maryland facility.

A color change to blue was performed during previous ownership, and the car is equipped with a replacement 396ci V8 linked to a three-speed automatic transmission.

Mechanical

Our Chevelle came with a 350-horsepower 396 cubic inch engine but now features a replacement 396 cubic inch that is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission.

The engine now has an aluminum intake manifold, finned aluminum Holley valve covers, chrome open air cleaner assembly, chromed alternator, power steering, and power brakes, and an aluminum Champion radiator.

Interior

The interior is also finished in its original special code 766 Black with Vinyl Bucket seats accompanied by a color-keyed dashboard, door panels, and carpeting.

An SS steering wheel has been installed, and further additions include a billet steering column, a retro-sound stereo housed within the stock radio opening and linked to a pair of aftermarket rear speakers, and the iconic "Horsehoe" shifter in the middle console.

Exterior

Decoding the data tag reveals this Chevelle was produced at Baltimore, MD assembly during the 3rd week of March 1968. It was originally finished in code "C" Ermine White with a Black vinyl top and currently is painted a pleasing shade of blue.

Additional modifications include upgraded headlight bulbs to a higher output, L.E.D. side markers and taillights, thicker sway bars, upgraded bushings, and American Racing torque thrust style mag wheels which measure 15? and are equipped with a staggered-width set of BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires in sizes 215/65 up front and 235/60 at the rear.

Suspension updates are said to include thicker-diameter sway bars and upgraded bushings, while four-wheel disc brakes are utilized at all four corners.
