Vehicle Description
1987 Chevrolet Silverado K10 Stepside
While relatively straight-lined and boxy in appearance (leading to
their "Square-body" nickname from the public) the rounded Line
trucks were the first generation of the C/K to be designed with the
use of computers and wind tunnels, optimizing the exterior shape
for lower drag and improved fuel economy. The chassis was an
all-new design (with all trucks receiving a leaf-spring rear
suspension); K-Series trucks moved to all-wheel drive
(shift-on-the-fly 4x4 was introduced for 1981).
For consignment a "square body" GM labeled "rounded design" (??)
pickup truck with a K designation. This means it's a 4x4, and our
model shown here is a step side version. Step sides offer up
several advantages: two of which are easier access to the inside of
the bed via the step on each side, and a completely flat fender
free bed to slide a full sheet of plywood into with no obstruction.
Our version shows nicely has mostly original paint, factory
interior, and was the first year fuel injection was offered for the
power plant. Classic Trucks are hot right now and we see a trend
for owners to use them as a promotional piece for their businesses.
A little promotion won't hurt will it?
Exterior
Square and rectangle design abound right up front with the
horizontal egg crate grille flanked by stacked dual headlights in
square form. A big bumper protects the front, and a nice bowtie
badge sits in the center. All steel with well minded gaps is bathed
in Midnight Blue which shows well for being mostly original with a
few touch up areas. At the midline is a stainless steel accent trim
running from front wheel well to rear of cab. Just south of said
cab is the step in the step side designation, as well as the
rounded protruding fender framing the rear wheels. On back, is a
solid gate and shiny bumper which has the taillights floating off
of each side of the box. Inside the bed is a beautifully prepared
stained and lacquered oak bed with chrome dividers. This is just
beautifully refinished and the metal surrounding it is also
pristine, all bathed in the Midnight Blue. The cab is topped with a
Steel Gray accent painted roof which dives down to the bed and
sports a sliding window for the airflow. 15-inch rally wheels are
on all 4 corners, and wrapped with 31x10.5X15LT all weathers.
Interior
All original in Silverado trimming, showing power windows and
locks, extra stainless trimmings on the doors, and all bathed in
blue vinyl which is slightly used. The broadcloth bench in tuck and
roll blue has shiny side bolsters in dark blue vinyl. On the
driver's side there are a few cracks in this vinyl due to the
constant in and out of the driver. The standard dash is within
along with the Silverado trim stainless panel for the extra gauges
available on this particular dash. The original steering wheel
fronts this dash which has A/C, AM/FM/Cassette radio and the dual
fuel tank switcheroo. Blue carpeting, fairly clean, floods the
floors and a blue felted headliner is above nice and tight.
Drivetrain
I must stress the engine, engine bay and undercarriage of this
truck are immaculate. Not even a hint of road dirt or corrosion on
these. With a 5.7-liter V8 under the hood fed by EFI and driving
the rear wheels (and sometimes the fronts in 4x4 mode) is a 700R4
4-speed automatic transmission. On back the rear axle has a 10-bolt
3.42 setup. Just a beautiful clean corrosion free, shiny and supple
hose and wire presentation.
Undercarriage
As described just as clean as a whistle underneath with no rust
surface or otherwise. Like new black painted steel for the framing
and floorpans as well as rockers and even stained boards for the
bed underneath...now that's attention to detail! Leaf springs are
on all 4 corners for the suspension, and power disc brakes for the
front, and power drums for the rear. A like new exhaust and fuel
tanks are also attached.
Drive-Ability
As expected this truck came right to life and was hitting on all 8
cylinders right out of the gate. We were off and it drives
beautifully, switches seamlessly into 4x4 mode, and handles nicely
for a high truck. Brakes are solid, and the only miscue is the
consigner states the right side gas tank does not work. All else
does and looks great doing it!
A great example with some serious work done to make it look like it
does, an all original, original. Direct to you from 1987 and
looking the part.
