Vehicle Description
1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu
Named after the coastal community of Malibu, California, the Malibu
was marketed primarily in North America, with the eighth generation
introduced globally. With the discontinuation of the Chevrolet
Impala in March 2020 and the Chevrolet Sonic in October 2020, the
Malibu is currently the only sedan offered by Chevrolet in the
U.S.
For consignment we offer that not all of us strive to own a muscle
car from the muscle car era, some families just needed a second car
for the ever frequent trips a housewife would have occasion to take
part in and many times it would include bringing the kids along.
This car is a beautiful 1969 Chevrolet Malibu, in grocery getter
form, a second car for the family, with perfect power, and ease of
operation to perform the aforementioned tasks. Right here in
Classic Auto Mall for the taking! An everyday car for the masses
but a survivor from 1969.
Exterior
Olympic Gold paint in respray form covers the exterior panels which
remain straight with decently minded gaps. Some scratches
throughout, a few dents and dings and overall patina is presenting
as we scan the exterior. Also, there are areas of invasive rust on
the lower sides of this car around the rocker areas. These can be
repaired as they have not invaded the structural integrity of the
frame and undercarriage, just the body on the lower portion.
Speaking of which along the rockers and just into the side panels
above a silver paint is used to appear as a wide trimming for the
rocker. Some black pin striping painted on is present just below
the belt line running the gamut of the sides. A black vinyl top is
on this car and is in excellent condition. No rust beneath it which
seems typical for these cars and years. Nice badging and window
trimmings, bumpers and grille and all in between is looking very
nice and surviving as original. On all 4 corners are standard shiny
wheel covers wrapped in black wall tires. A nice design for this
second year of the second generation of the Malibu, in its suburbia
mom trim.
Interior
In a few words, very clean, very original and very nice. All
trimmed in black vinyl from the door panels which are nearly
perfect to the front and rear benches which use an interplay of
dark charcoal broadcloth for the inserts and these sport a
horizontal "sound wave pattern" stitched within them. The bolsters
are shiny black vinyl as are the molded headrests. The rear bench
is the same motif and all excellent. Black carpeting provides the
base for these chairs to float in and above upfront is the original
very well preserved and clean dash. Speaking of which, its factory
condition with all original gauges and radio. The dash top is nice
and shined padded black vinyl and no cracks are interfering with
this view. The headliner is good and tight, and in black, and molds
nicely to the raked rear glass and roofline inside.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a correct 307ci V8 topped with a two-barrel
carburetor and backed up by a TH350 3- speed automatic
transmission. The rear axle is a 10-bolt version with 3.08 gears.
All original, all nicely aged with some paint off and patina, but
mechanically sound as a rock...gas her up and go do the running
around!
Undercarriage
Some surface rust is noted on the usual suspects like suspension
and driveshaft, however all solid and floorpans are rust free.
Independent coil springs for the front, and a 4 link with coil
springs for the rear suspension are on and all solid. Power drum
brakes are on all 4 corners. We note a new battery, new alternator,
and new fuel lines recently installed for general maintenance.
Drive-Ability
We sat in this car and started it up and really had to concentrate
on whether it was running or not. It was that quiet and smooth. Off
to the test track where she ran like clockwork, no problems with
acceleration, braking or handling. A beautiful driver and you are
in a very nicely preserved interior.
Running more quietly than a church mouse, a wonderful interior and
all steel exterior, some minor rust at the rockers near the wheel
wells, but overall a solid driver and great example of second car
suburbia syndrome! A relief from all this muscle car madness we
seem to have a plethora of.
