After the amazing success of the 964 generation of the 911, in 1994
Porsche announced its successor, the 993. The new 993 model line
was designed from the ground up, and only 20% of its parts were
carried over from the previous model. Upgrades included a light
alloy subframe with coil and wishbone suspension, which notably
improved the handling and response of the car to its driver. In
addition, the993 Carrera models were now powered by a new 3.6-litre
engine, which developed 272 horsepower.
Redesigned by Tony Hatter, the initial goal was to retain the basic
body shell structure of the previous generation, with the revision
of the exterior panels via larger flared wheel arches, and smoother
front and rear bumpers. The result was an iconic design evolution
that remains timeless to this day.
Our highly optioned 993 Cabriolet was purchased on April 15, 1995
at Roger Jobs Porsche in Bellingham, WA. for $76,878, by Howard
Schultz, CEO of Starbucks. During his 19 years with the car, it was
kept in Seattle Washington, and later moved to Schultz's vacation
home in the Hamptons, NY. Schultz finally sold his 993 to a
relative, having covered a mere 5,961 miles during nearly two
decades of prideful ownership. The car saw only the best care, and
Schultz maintained excellent Service records showing diligent
maintenance of the engine, brakes, and fuel system.
In 2015 the car arrived at Canepa with only 12,214 miles on the
odometer. The 993 Cabriolet was subjected to our extensive and
diligent process called "The Canepa Difference". This includes a
comprehensive mechanical inspection where all systems are checked
and serviced as necessary. While in our care, the 993 has been
upgraded with a new Porsche Classic Radio with navigation. Over 75
hours have been invested in a concours level detail, which has
ensured that this low mileage example is Porsche Club of America
show ready.
The 993 was acquired by its next caretaker in 2017, who put less
than 2,000 miles under his 3 years of ownership. In June 2020, the
car was returned to Canepa to have an inspection and complete
service on all systems and fluids. The Cabriolet also received new
front shock bump stops, valve cover gaskets, audio speakers, and a
recharge on the air conditioning system.
This highly optioned 993 presents itself in immaculate condition.
With only 14,867 miles, and impeccable Service maintenance records,
this wonderful Porsche 993 Cabriolet is ready to turn the key, drop
the soft-top, and be enjoyed as intended.
