The body was off the frame and put on a rotisserie for a show
quality restoration. This is a clean southern car with 69,000
actual miles documented on the title. A guy paid $40,000 for this
car in good condition then had a total restoration done. This one
is exceptional.
EXTERIOR: It is a gorgeous car- the color, the stance, the red
accents are beautiful. Outstanding fit and finish. I went the extra
on this one because of its quality. It is laser straight from every
angle, all the panels fit square and flush. It is smooth
everywhere, I don't see any signs of damage, rust, bubbles or
cracks. The original Chateau Slate is a beautiful color. It is PPG
base coat- clear coat. The metal flake is laid out evenly and the
clear coat is polished smooth and glossy. All of the exterior trim
his been replaced including the bumpers, grills, hood ornament and
grills in the scoops. All the stainless trim around the windows,
the bowtie mirrors, door handles and emblems are new. All the trim
on the tail panel, taillights are new. The tail panel is gloss
black. All of the glass is new. The windows roll up and down smooth
and fit right. New 14 inch rally wheels with new trim. New
reproduction Wide Oval redline tires. The door jambs are even
glossy, all the weather strips and window seals were replaced.
INTERIOR: It is completely restored from carpet to headliner. Down
on the floor is new carpet, sill plates and seat belts front and
back. The center console is new. It has a correct 4-speed shifter
with reverse lockout and chrome ball. The seats have been rebuilt
with new springs, cushions and upholstery. The door panels are new
including the armrests, window cranks and handles. In front of me
is a beautifully restored dash area. New lense, chrome bezels,
glovebox liner, chrome horn ring and dash pad. The metal is painted
gloss black. It has a neatly installed gauge cluster right below
the dash. Above me is a new tight fitting headliner, new visors,
mirror and dome light. There is a new wiring harness too.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Rebuilt original 396 motor. It is dated
properly and the casting #s are correct. The motor compartment is
restored and detailed to factory condition. The motor has all stock
components including the manifolds, chrome valve covers, air
cleaner and even the decals. It has a new radiator, shroud and fan.
It also has reproduction GM hoses and clamps. Features include
power steering with the correct remote reservoir and a new power
brake system with a dual reservoir and a cadmium plated booster.
All the metal is painted a smooth, semi glass finish.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: It is completely rock solid metal. It's painted
with the grey and aqua spatter. The bottom of the trunk lid and the
jamb are just as smooth and glossy as the car. It has a new weather
strip, backseat divider and a trunk mat. The spare has a tire
cover.
UNDERSIDE: The body was removed from the chassis. The frame was
media blasted and powder coated. The suspension and steering is
completely new- bushings, shocks, balljoints, tierod ends, etc. The
rear suspension is new- control arm bushings, springs and shocks.
The brake system is completely new- converted to disc in front, new
brake lines, hoses and emergency brake cables. The new dual exhaust
system has Flowmaster mufflers. The fuel system is new including
the tank, sending unit, straps and lines. Looking up at the motor
it still looks brand new- new motor mounts, freeze plugs, fuel pump
and starter. The Muncie 4-speed is period correct (dated November,
car was built in November). It was rebuilt, the bell housing is
clean, shift linkage and trans mount are new. In back it has a
rebuilt, correct 12 bolt with 3.55 gears. The underbody is rust
free, prepped and sealed with a rubberized undercoat. The body and
frame were reunited with new bushings.
I think this Chevelle is exceptional. I am proud to have bought it
and to own it. I really feel the next owner will feel the same
way!
