The historic Kyote II dune buggies were designed and built by the legendary pinstriper, custom painter and fabricator Edward “Dean” Jeffries at the “Jeffries Studio of Style” on Cahuenga Blvd. in Hollywood, CA sometime after 1969. According to Simon Allen, Kyote Facebook site administrator, only about 150 Kyote II models with their little doors were produced; few are still on the road (google the Registry”). Dean was best known for building the Mantaray car for the 1964 National Roadster Show and the Monkeemobile for the TV show “The Monkeys.”.

This buggy, built on a 1961 VW frame, is powered by a professionally rebuilt 1965-1969, 164 ci, 180 horsepower, 6-cylinder Corvair turbocharged motor fed by a single carburetor and an electric fuel pump with a little over 1,000 miles since the build:

- The June/2017 rebuild including new oil pump, bearing, rings, pistols, connecting rods, camshaft, and lifters, cylinders, and gaskets. Heads rebuilt with new valves, valve guides, valve springs, retainers and locks. Assisting in the construction of this buggy was Hadley Chassis Engineering at Transvair Conversion Kits, Costa Mesa, CA.. Larry Claypool and expert on Corvair Turbo motors states (google), (They) are doggy at low rpms, when you floor the gas it takes awhile for the turbine to spin and build up the boost. But they are very good highway performers at high rpm’s. That accurately describes this buggies performance.

Additionally 2017 recent improvements include installation of a rebuilt 4 speed manual transmission, new wiring and fuse box (see details below), brakes work and light inspections (see details below), new turn signal switch, new shocks, new horn, new wiper switch, new vinyl upholstery (seats and doors), new carpets, new seat belts, and front fender mounted rear view mirrors. The battery was new in 2019. The windshield has a vertical crack. The taillight fixtures are from an earlier model year to meet California's requirements for solid red lenses.

This car comes standard with a front and a back removable tops, roller throttle pedal, leather wrapped steering wheel, 8 ball shifting knob, black mirror dice, tachometer, speedometer, some airplane gauges (Temperature Cylinder Head, and Manifold inches HC), drivers side wiper and for your off-road travel, adjustable front end and dual emergency brake handles to feather rear brakes.

Additional Details of Note:

The painted surface is non-factory, substantially smooth mahogany brown but appears to have been applied at different times with different shades.. Wavy area at the rear of the right front fender indicates some body work, but it's hard to photograph.

245/60SR15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A Tires with approximately 50 percent tread and chrome wheels with some rust.

Some slight oil leakage from sitting and new gaskets getting synthetic oil.

Front floor pans are fiberglassed, and the battery box is rusted. No back seat (carpeted)

Vin and chassis is 1961 VW. Registered until 1/2021.

Set up for towing, including tow bar and portable magnetic tail lights.

The car is not equipped with radio, cd player, power steering, power brakes, heater, air conditioner, side or back windows.

Car runs and drives strong on the highway, clutch may require fethering when starting out in low gear.

Reconstruction details (documentation available):

Transmission: Purchased off Ebay as a rebuild. It's in fair condition; seems to have a very close shifting range which can make it difficult to find or get into gears at times.

Electrical- Rewired complete vehicle with 12 volt circuit fuse panel and wiring harness. Upgraded charging system to an internally regulated one wire alternator system inside original alternator housing. Repaired or replaced all light sockets, installed horn button, blinker switch, 12 circuit wiring harness, new headlights, and shrink tubing.

Brakes - Removed and cleaned all brake lines. Inspected brake lining, shoes, brake rotors and drums. Inspected master cylinder, brake booster, brake hoses/lines, calipers, wheel cylinders for leaks and proper installation. New master cylinder previously installed.

Upholstery - Seats and door panels reupholstered in 2017 with brown vinyl. Seats are fiberglass and upholstery is a slip on. Back area made into a shelf is carpeted.. Seats slide forward/back and tilt forward.

Pan - Drivers and passenger front floor pans have been fiberglassed. Battery area in the back of the passenger seat is rusted through but has been made safe with sheet metal to hold the battery.

Age and health forces me to sell. Can deliver up to 150 miles for a small fee.
