The 'Pony Car Wars' reached their peak in 1970 with the Trans Am Series raging with Parnelli Jones and George Follmer going neck and neck with Roger Penske and Mark Donohue. Ford prevailed in the end with the Trans Am Championship for 1970. In commemoration of their 'Total Performance" program, high performance graced the showroom floor as well.
Ford offered the Boss 302 as well as its 429 brethren. They also offered the Shelby's as well which also proved to be very popular. The #1 performance choice from the Ford lineup, however, was the Mach 1 which was introduced in the previous year.
This particular 1970 Code-05 Mach 1 "Sportsroof" is a very nice example that is just out of an estate where it was cherished for many years. It is an original Mach 1 with its original 351 cubic inch V8 and its original 4 speed manual transmission. Overall the restoration was carried out well and was completed around 15 years ago. Finished in its original colors of Red with a black stripe and black interior, all of the brightwork and paint still look great. The car comes with a Marti Report showing its authenticity.
