This Guards Red 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo has seen extensive refresh over the last few years including paint, interior, engine rebuild and mechanical refresh. It looks, runs and drives excellent!
This is an accident free Texas car since new with all original sheet metal. Total mileage unknown as the odometer is not working (common issue on all Porsches of this era). When the car was repainted, updated mirrors and door handles from a 968 were fitted as were 17" Cup Two wheels (new tires in 2020). The interior is exceptional with a flawless dash, very nice power leather seats (working), excellent carpet and door panels, tasteful carbon fiber trim kit and a Momo steering wheel.
This car runs well and when that turbo is full on it is fast! And of course, the 944 was legendary for its handling; having the perfect 50:50 weight distribution. The Turbo cars benefitted from beefed up suspension, larger brakes, and stronger transaxle.
Other than the odometer, a turn signal switch that doesn't always cancel, and the deletion of the rear wiper mechanism this car is in very good working order, including the AC. The stereo could stand to be upgraded.
The Porsche 924/944/968 range has until recently been underappreciated by collectors and Porsche enthusiasts. Those days are over and well preserved and refreshed cars like this one are now seeing prices surge. You will be hard pressed to find a better example than this car under $20,000. The pictures speak for themselves but the proof is in the way it drives. The Porsche 944 Turbo still represents an excellent value but the days of buying a good one cheap have ended. Buy a car in this condition, drive it, take care of it and you will likely never lose money on it.
