The Ford Focus has been around for about 20 years. It has been a great car for many families, and has seen a few performance variants as well. But this 2017 RS model is truly a game changer. With 350hp, all wheel drive, and a host of trick features - along with a price tag around $45k - it became the leader in performance hatchbacks.
This example, equipped with the optional RS2 package, shows 27k miles and is in excellent condition. The black paint with RS body pieces make for a pretty mean looking Focus. The blue RS graphics tie in nicely with the Brembo calipers too. Aftermarket features include louvered rear window covers, Rally Armor mud flaps, and 20% window tint. The 19” RS wheels wear sticky P235/35ZR19 Continental Extreme Contact tires, while an extra set of silver RS wheels with Michelin winter tires is included.
The RS obviously doesn’t look like an ordinary Focus, but the differences are more extreme when you get to the mechanicals. The engine is a tuned version of the Mustang’s 2.3L EcoBoost turbo four. This setup is factory rated at 350hp. In a Focus! The engine feeds a 6-speed manual transmission followed by a sophisticated AWD system that can send up to 70% of engine power to the rear axle, and up to 100% of that to either rear wheel. This car is nothing like its front-wheel-drive brethren.
Still, there is so much more to this car than a powerful motor and fancy drive system. There are adaptive dampers all around. Four different driving modes are available, those being normal, sport, race, and drift (yes, drift). It has launch control. There is an active exhaust with multiple modes. Mechanical modifications are limited to a Roush cold air intake and GarageLine 20mm wheel spacers. Note the factory intake is included.
The interior is highlighted by the RS2 Recaro seats. These leather-and-suede buckets offer 8-way power adjustment and seat heaters. They are very supportive and will keep you in place during any performance driving. The RS2 package also includes voice navigation along with heated side mirrors and a heated steering wheel. The dash has a center gauge cluster for temperature, boost pressure, and oil pressure. All the conveniences of a Focus are present including dual climate control and the Sync 3 system with 8” touch screen. And let’s not forget about the sunroof. There is also a factory 10-speaker Sony audio system with Bluetooth and USB.
The Focus RS is about as hot a hatch as you can get. This one is very well equipped and has low miles along with a few practical upgrades (it could be returned to 100% stock in about two hours). It’s ready if you are.
