Vehicle Description
2000 Dodge Intrepid RT Sedan
When asked directly about the "Petty Blue" color, Richard related
years later that indeed it had been a fluke. Late in the 1959
season, after having to rebuild one of the '59 Plymouth Fury's,
Maurice told Richard that they didn't have enough white paint for
the painting of the entire car. Being brought up to waste nothing,
Richard found some dark blue paint, but not in a sufficient amount
to paint the whole car. Richard said he looked at Maurice, and
Maurice looked at him, and they just dumped the two paints into one
tub, then proceeded to paint the Plymouth in the color that came
out. When they got done, they were impressed themselves with the
hue. Lee came back from an out of town race, and marveled at how
that color set the car off. Almost electric is what he said. Of
course, Richard and Maurice had to scramble to remember the right
mix. Once they did, the formula became their secret, even to the
point of being patented by a paint company as Petty Blue. When the
1960 season dawned, there was only one color on the Petty cars. The
"electric" Petty Blue. It became their trademark.
From its NASCAR influences ("Win on Sunday Sell on Monday") this
2000 Dodge Intrepid (meaning fearless adventurer) comes to us for
consignment. A mere 46K miles on her, all bathed in Stone White,
and more rounded lines than a Playboy centerfold, Hugh Hefner would
be jealous. A 1 owner car, loved racing, and wanted to drive the
Petty Car he saw on track.
Exterior
Stone White bathes the laser straight panels on this Intrepid. All
integrated headlights, taillights, a front crash bumper, curved
"smiling" grille definitely has some influence on our star of stage
and screen Lightning McQueen from "Cars". Black rimmed tinted
glass, a sunroof, and rear deck spoiler adorn the 4-door sedan.
Nice 17-inch alloy wheels with good rubber are on all 4
corners.
Interior
Original to this car when built, X pattern broadcloth in gray is on
the interior chairs, which are front buckets and a rear bench.
Seats are all in excellent condition. The original dash is in front
and sports white faced circular gauges within a gray and black
field, and rounded and nice and clean, and moving downward to
interact with the center console. Gray carpeting floods the floors,
and a tight off-white headliner is above.
Drivetrain
A 3.5L DOHC 6-cylinder engine is within the confines of a clean
engine bay and produces 242 torque steering horsepower. It has EFI
and a Chrysler Ultradrive transmission (A606-42LE) 4-speed
automatic. The axle has a 3.66 final drive.
Undercarriage
All clean, strong, and very solid with very minimal surface rust
seen throughout. Suspension is independent McPherson struts the
front, and for the back, independent multi link with Chapman Struts
and power disc brakes all around.
Drive-Ability
All good on the test drive front, all worked as it should and it
was a comfortable seat time session.
Inspired by the 2000 NASCAR series in its aero design, 4 dapper
sedan format, all low miles and looking good for the taking. All
the original paperwork, sales brochures, and window sticker are
included with the car....R/T for the taking!!!!
