Vehicle Description
This 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Turbo 20th Anniversary Pace Car
is one of the few ultra-desirable speedy T/As only available to a
select few. And while the interior and exterior have been kept in
show-ready condition, the ultra-clean engine bay hides some
upgraded power. So you get a car that lives up to its legendary
looks and surpasses its legendary performance.
The icon status of the Turbo T/A was cemented on day one. This was
the 20th anniversary edition, and it was the only time they had a
turbocharged 3rd gen car. And to top It all off, these were the
only ones selected to be the Indy 500 Pace Car replicas. They only
produced 1,550 examples, making rarity part of the recipe right
from the start. So the folks at Pontiac really know how to pile on
the significance of the Trans Am's special celebration. They say
the 20th anniversary gift is China/porcelain, and so all the
special edition cars were done in white. And since this car has
averaged under 2,600 miles annually, it certainly has not spent the
decades going on the daily grind. So the white paint retains a nice
luster, and it helps to show off the crisp lines of the body
panels. And speaking of the body, you may also recognize the lines
of the extra sleek GTA full body kit package. This was the true
range-topping Trans Am of its day, and so it got all the best
features, right down to the gold crosslace wheels.
The interior is just as original and nicely preserved as the
exterior. It starts with the GTA-exclusive Ultima bucket seats.
There are finished in a supple leather, and they also have power
adjustable bolstering for the best in comfort. The sports steering
wheel is different than most other cars you see, because this was
the year Pontiac started to embrace their technical side with the
premium cars. So you have full stereo controls right in the middle.
Beyond that is a full set of clear analogue gauges. Because this
was the top-of-the-line car for Pontiac, it comes loaded with
features like power windows, power locks, power steering, remote
trunk opener, cruise control, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, and a Viper
alarm system. The T-tops store in their proper factory bags, and
when you take them out, the factory air conditioning will keep you
comfortable while being open to the world.
What's under the hood of a TTA is different than what you'll see
anywhere else in the Pontiac family. However, if you know the best
Buicks of the era, they you're getting close to what makes this so
special. The 3.8-liter Turbo V6 package was one of the best around.
It took the hardy Detroit iron know-how, and used the robust
reputation to add some big turbocharged power for cars like the
Grand National and GNX. The one you're looking at here is believed
to be the original block, but you can also see there's hints at
something more. The powder coated turbo cover, charge pipe, and
intake add some sporty sleekness. And further within you'll see an
upgraded TA49 turbocharger, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 36
lbs injectors, and upgraded exhaust with a sweet-sounding
Flowmaster muffler. The four-speed automatic transmission is the
numbers-matching unit, and now has an upgraded shift kit and
converter from Performance Torque Converters. They even invested on
the fundamentals, like new motor and trans mounts. The result is an
already speedy T/A that know how to handle some extra pep in its
step. And speaking of handling, this also has four-wheel power disc
brakes, limited-slip rear end, and the desirable WS6 sports
suspension.
The sale comes complete with the full owner's manual packet,
including the pace car decals. This it is the rare, powerful, and
stunning classic T/A of your dreams. So don't let it end up in
someone else's garage. Call today!!!
