Vehicle Description
Welcome to StreetDreamsTexas as we celebrate our 22nd year in the
classic and muscle car business. Here's another great example of
the 'other' Mustang from The Texas Hill Country's premier source
for classic machinery. When John Gladden of Gladden Products
Corporation realized that he needed to find new postwar markets for
his manufacturing business, he started the Mustang Motorcycle
Corporation in 1946. Gladden wanted to produce a lightweight and
inexpensive bike for commuting that was larger than a scooter but
easier to handle than a full size motorcycle. These great-looking,
mean-sounding bikes have become collector favorites and enjoy a
loyal following. This 1958 Mustang Pony clearly demonstrates the
styling that kept prospective owners awake at night. Titled by its
engine number (S814171), this nicely restored Mustang is sporting a
Mikuni carburetor, a machined (probably aftermarket) aluminum head,
Burman 4-speed transmission, front brake, and a sweet custom paint
job. The 320 cc Busy Bee single-cylinder engine sounds strong and
healthy, with an exhaust note that actually sounds like like a
miniature Harley-Davidson. Always marketed as a fun and efficient
commuter bike, one wonders how many more Mustangs would exist if
the company had directed their marketing at the teenagers that so
desperately wanted one. These gems are big fun in a small package.
