For Sale: 1967 Citroen ID19 in St. Louis, Missouri
French built Citroen ID-19 Sedan finished in code correct White
Carrare over Orange Cloth interior! Showing only 91,769 Kilometers!
Imported from France to the United States in 2002. A unique car to
have in any collection, and certainly a head turner at every car
show! So many special features to admire! An automotive hall of
fame design forever cemented into history!
Citroen introduced the DS-19 in 1955 at the famed Paris Motor Show
as the replacement for the Traction Avant. Its aerodynamic,
futuristic design featuring a front engine, front-wheel-drive
system with hydropneumatic self-leveling suspension and power disc
brakes made for quite a stir among show goers! Unique with
frameless doors and absent of a front grill, it looked like nothing
else on the road, and incoming orders broke records that stood for
decades! The DS was very sophisticated with hydraulic technology to
power the brakes, steering, and even the gear selector. For this
reason, it was also very expensive! Citroen knew many of its French
patrons would not be able to afford such luxuries considering it
was still recovering from WWII, so in 1957 another model would be
offered, the ID-19.
Lacking the vacuum formed dash found in the DS along with the
complicated hydraulic power steering and gear selector, the ID-19
would incorporate a simplified power braking system saving buyers
about 25% over the costly DS-19. They would share the same body,
self-leveling suspension, and even the size of the engine, albeit
the ID version with slightly less horsepower. The top ranging trim
level for both versions would be the Pallas model. It would dress
the car with full wheel covers, chrome & brushed aluminum trim, as
well as extra insulated interior with velour seating. In 1967, a
Series B model was redesigned with a much more attractive front end
to feature covered headlamps and revolutionary directional
headlamps that turned with the steering wheel to illuminate the
roadway more efficiently during cornering! Believe it or not, the
Citroen ID-19 was also successful in motorsports racing as well,
winning the 1959 and 1966 Monte Carlo Rallys against some very
competitive manufacturers!
Offered here is a 1967 Citroen ID-19 finished in White Carrare with
Black roof over Orange velour cloth interior. Powered by its
original 1911cc Inline 4 cylinder with Solex carburetion and
4-speed manual transmission. It features a fully functional
suspension leveling system, directional Marchal sealed beam
headlights and lens covers, dual outside mirrors, Sekurit window
glass, passenger vanity mirror, full polished wheel covers and body
side moldings.
This is a Paris built example that stayed in Chartres, France until
2002, before being imported through Florida and quickly making its
way to a local St. Louis car collection in December 2002 with
88,772 kilometers on the odometer. It would be exercised regularly
for the first four years, adding 2,777kms by October 2006. All
local service work would be carried out by local import specialist
GLB Motorworks from this point forward. This included new fuel
pump, rebuilding of the carb, drain & flushing the fuel tank,
replacing rubber fuel lines, fresh fuel filter, and installing a
new water pump in August 2006. Updated swivel style rear brake
lines were installed that same rear with new hydraulic brake fluid
and a bleed of the system. In 2012, with 91,726kms on the odometer,
the leveling suspension return line was replaced, drive line & fan
shaft lubricated, new choke cable installed, valve adjustment
performed with new valve cover gaskets.
Upon arrival to our facility in June 2020, it received a new
battery, fuel tank flush, carburetor cleaned, new engine oil &
filter, new rear tail light lenses, new stainless wiper blades, and
general detail throughout. Having sat for a number of years with
the previous owner due to health reasons, it once again continues
to run remarkable well today! The overall vehicle condition would
be best classified as driver quality, with an outstanding original
presentation with one previous exterior repaint. The odometer now
reads 91,760kms, or 57,017 miles, and is believed to be accurate
from new. Although we do not have enough supporting evidence to
make an actual miles claim. It will come with 3 sets of keys, all
original tire changing equipment and jack tools, French
registration sticker still affixed to the windshield dated 2002
that matches the original registration plate 891JC28 on the rear
bumper, and service records back to 2000.
We don't believe these wonderfully designed cars come to market
very often here in the United States, making this opportunity a
rare chance to own one of the most interesting cars ever built in
the 20th century. The DS/ID series automobiles have consistently
been recognized as one of the most influential cars ever produced,
with induction into the automobile hall of fame alongside the Ford
Model T, VW Beetle, Mini Cooper, Jaguar E-Type, and off-road legend
Land Rover! They are special in so many unique ways, far too many
to discuss here. We recommend serious buyers act quickly, and
schedule a chance to review this in person before it gets away!
