In addition, the classic also only has 400 miles on the rebuild, and just 29,911 actual miles showing on the odometer. A very special find!

About Pontiacs Trans Am Model:
The beautifully redesigned Trans Am for 1977 was extremely successful for General Motors Pontiac, with the notable help of the box office movie hit "Smokey and he Bandit" starring Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, and Sally Fields! The front fascia of the Trans Am was now made of durable urethane, fitted with modern square headlamps and one piece honeycomb grills on each side, bordered with chrome accents. The flat hood received a newly sharped, non-functional shaker scoop, with the lower front fascia molded slightly different to keep a small spoiler and allow plenty of air to flow through special ducts to the radiator. Also new for the 1977 model were the cast alloy 15x7" Snowflake wheels! Under the hood, the 455ci displacement engine was gone forever replaced with a set of Pontiac 400ci options, or an Oldsmobile 403ci for the first time.

The base Pontiac 400ci V8 was only offered with an automatic and made 180hp and an impressive 325 lb. ft. of torque. The Olds 403ci V8 produced 185hp and slightly less torque at 320 lb. ft., only available with an automatic transmission as well. The power house of the bunch was the Pontiac 400ci with the W72 Performance Package offering higher engine compression and 6X heads with a smaller combustion chamber to make 200hp and 325lb. ft. of torque! Limited production removable Hurst Hatches were available, with most finding their way onto Special Edition Trans Ams. Sales were brisk at the Pontiac dealerships, with Trans Am production totaling nearly 69,000 units!

About Our Available 1977 Trans Am Example:
This 3-owner 1977 Pontiac Trans Am is finished in its factory correct 75X- Buccaneer Red exterior with 97N- Deluxe two-tone Firethorn Red/White combination custom doeskin vinyl interior! The Trans Am example, seen here, was completed the 4th week of June from the Norwood, Ohio production plant and would come fitted with all available options to include number's matching L78 400ci V8 with W72 6.6L Performance Package, 3-speed automatic transmission, air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, electric rear window defrost, Delco AM/FM/8-track Stereo tape player with windshield antenna, removable Hurst Hatch T-tops, tilt steering column with Formula steering wheel, 15" snowflake wheels, illuminated passenger vanity mirror, rubber interior floor mats, Space Saver spare tire, and 3.23 Posi-Traction rear axle. It would deliver new from Shelton Pontiac-Buick based in Rochester, MI to its first lucky owner! The second owner would take possession in August 1979 and protect it for 38 years until October 2017, selling it with only 29,511 miles on the odometer. A signed and notarized odometer disclosure statement is included with the sale.

The third owner would commence a full mechanical restoration of the entire drivetrain and drive line. Since this Trans Am had been sitting largely unused for the latter part of its life, all systems would require attention and resealing. This allowed the new owner some freedoms to perform some modern updates and performance enhancements, all while saving the integrity of an overall original appearance and keeping all major components number's matching. Literally everything up front was removed, including the fenders, to completely replace all components from the firewall forward. It was all detailed with new paint, stainless steel 3/8" fuel lines, brakes lines & hoses, brake master cylinder & booster, transmission lines, etc. The engine was fully rebuilt by Shade Racing engines in Bellville, Ohio retaining the original crankshaft, connecting rods, camshaft, 6X cylinder heads, with all machining performed by Lucas Machine Ltd. It is now fitted with aftermarket high-compression pistons, completely rebuilt heads with new valves, valve springs, collars & keepers, new aluminum Edelbrock intake & 650cfm carburetor, SD-455 style cast iron exhaust manifolds, and much, much more! Engine output is now estimated at 370 crank horsepower!

The transmission was rebuilt by Gearstar Performance Transmissions in Akron, OH to Level III specs to include new torque convertor with 2200rpm stall, new stainless cooler lines and transmission cooler. The rear end was rebuilt by Hensels Gearage in Massillon, Ohio with new Eaton Tru-Trac Posi, pinion bearing & seal, original 3.23 gear set, new axle bearings & seals with Moser 30-spline axles! The driveshaft was media blasted, balanced, painted, and received new u-joints. The suspension was completely rebuilt utilizing Viking Performance adjustable front coil-overs, Viking adjustable rear shocks, rebuilt upper/lower control arms, all new ball joints, bushings throughout front & back, wheel bearings, brake pads/rotors, rear brake cylinders & shoes, and the additional of Gen II sub-frame connectors and forward G-Braces by Pro-Touring F-Body.

Inside, it remains largely original as a low mileage example should. Although, the front seats were removed to replace the under lying seat foams with the original covers reused, and the front interior floor carpet was replaced. Everything inside is fully functional, right down to the clock and ice cold air conditioning. Even the original 8-track player was rebuilt for use in case someone wants to use it again! The trunk houses the original mat, Space Saver spare, tire inflator can (empty), Hurst Hatch T-top storage back, and jack equipment. Included with the sale are 2 sets of keys, 3 build sheets, all recent parts & service receipts, and ownership records. This car represents 1 of 10,466 W72 400ci 6.6L/Automatics produced in 1977, and likely one of the finest on the market today!
