This car belongs to a personal friend who has owned it 12 years.
California born and raised with only 76k actual miles until 2008
when he bought it and did a ground up restoration as a mild custom.
Restored in 2008 and approximately 30k miles put on since.
EXTERIOR: Stripped to bare metal (photo documented). Rust free CA
body. Painted Hot Rod Flatz LeMans Blue with Daddy Roth Dangerous
Blue Flake over the white tu-tone. All chrome and trim was removed,
restored as needed and reinstalled after paint. All the weather
stripping was replaced. The body gaps all line up excellent, doors
click shut, tailgate opens and closes properly, jambs are painted
nicely and have clean visible seams. Car was dressed up with chrome
accessories including a set of NOS rocker moldings which are very
rare for the wagons.
INTERIOR: The interior was done in a typical '50s fashion with
rolled and pleated vinyl upholstery including seats and door panels
with accent pipping. Matching rolled a pleated snap-in inserts were
also made for the front wheel wells. The dash was restored and
dressed up with Impala trim and steering wheel. Has a factory power
operated tailgate window with the switch under the dash. Has a
Kenwood CD stereo concealed in a factory under dash tissue
dispenser. Everything on the dash works including gauges,
speedometer, signals, lights, wipers, etc. with exception of the
odometer which recently quit. The rear seat folds down flat.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine is a 350 Vortec with an Edelbrock
carb and intake that was completely rebuilt in '08. It's backed up
to a 700R4 transmission and the stock 3.36 rear end. Engine bay is
nicely detailed, has aluminum radiator and dressed up with finned
aluminum valve covers and air cleaner.
UNDERSIDE: It was never frame-off restored, but it also never
needed it! All original floors and braces, nice clean and rust
free. Everything under the car was rebuilt in '08 and well
maintained since, aluminized exhaust, front end rebuilt, new
balanced drive-shaft, etc.. Has custom Air Bag It air ride
suspension. Unlike many of todays over complicated air ride
systems, this one is simple to operate using 4 switches that
operate each wheel individually.
This is a great looking car that takes awards constantly but more
importantly can be driven with confidence. I have ridden with this
car to many shows in surrounding states, I would not hesitate
driving it to CA. Its reliable, comfortable, simple and
classic.
