Vehicle Description
1969 Dodge Charger RT
"See the White Hat Special the Dodge Boys today, right here at
Classic Auto Mall. Ads of the day touted "Mother warned me that
there would be men like you driving cars like that. Do you really
think you can snag me with that long low touch machine you just
rolled up in? Dodge Charger RT/SE sounds like Alphabet soup, and
frankly I'm attracted to you because you have a very intelligent
face...My name is Julia and here's my number!
Purchased by its first family for use as a fun daily driver, this
sweet White Hat Special was driven regularly to church, and various
and sundry utilitarian day to day chores. Originally a 1 of 5
produced cars with a 225ci slant 6 cylinder engine, and a Q5 color
code (translating to Turquoise with White accenting stripe on the
back) it led its bucolic urban life. Fast forward to our current
consigner who purchased the car already done as a 440ci V8 R/T
tribute then stepped it up a notch with 572ci of Hemi power and
then some we give you the 1969 Dodge Charger RT Clone...and then
some, READ ON!
Exterior
Bumpers have been re-chromed with a 3 step process and all trim has
been polished to like new, so on the bling side of this car we are
fully covered. All this is attached to straight steel panels all
reworked to perfection then bathed in Bright Turquoise Poly paint,
that you can don your scuba gear prior to looking closely, its deep
baby! Also adorned with the original factory style stickers in
white, the rear is wrapped with the wide white band and Turquoise
R/T. Large "flying buttress" styled B pillars swoop rearward,
framing the rear glass which tilts at a lesser angle than the
pillars and give the back of the roof the inset look. Upfront the
correct hidden badged R/T headlight panels are in a split grille
with surrounding trimmings and one of those triple dipped bumpers
below. A chromed side view mirror hangs from either door, and on
the driver's side is a large hinged fill cap on the top of the rear
quarter. BF Goodrich supplies the rubber which wraps Cragar SS
style rims on all 4 corners. I'll call this the "Turquoise that
destroys". Read on kids for further explanation.
Interior
Consigner states that all the original interior seats have been
re-upholstered with snow white vinyl all to original factory specs,
they look brand new. Front buckets in high back form, complete with
some chromed surrounding trimmings on the headrests, and stitched
rectangular buttoned in the center inserts. Door panels are also
white, very clean and all correct circular machined stainless
Charger badge on the sills. A true to original wood wrapped
steering wheel has a Chrysler corporate emblem central button. An
aftermarket gauge cluster lines up for you on the back dash front,
and all spit shined and gleaming dials and knobs are present and
accounted for upfront. Gauges now use modern sensors for accurate
readings and have backlit indigo blue LCD lighting. A real wood
pistol grip handle shift lever is in the center of the restored
console, now with real veneer in lieu of the factory mac tac
factory material. Below the dash is an aftermarket stereo system
with a 6 disc in trunk CD changer. This unit can easily be removed
if it does not meet your original standards as the factory radio is
still present and accounted for. Black carpet floods the floors and
has fitted Charger R/T floor mats embroidered in the matching Q5
Turquoise color way. Pure Turquoise poise ladies and gentlemen.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is the turquoise that destroys as we shake hands
with a 572ci HEMI V8 sporting an aluminum block. Aluminum heads are
also on and include a fully forged rotating assembly inside. A
Harland Sharp rollerized valve train is inside. On top is an
aluminum dual 4-barrel intake upgraded with twin Holley vacuum
secondary street warrior electric choke carbs, topped off with a
factory style air cleaner assembly and wrinkle finish valve covers.
Other neat-o features are a full MSD ignition, 4 core aluminum
radiator with mechanical fan, March Enterprise serpentine pulley
setup and full length tuned headers and SS exhaust with factory
style chrome tips. On the back is a 4-speed manual transmission
designated A833, and way back a Dana 60 rear axle.
Undercarriage
Done just right baby bear, all evenly rustproof coated, and tight
as a drum on the structural side of things. An upgraded flywheel
and clutch is on to accommodate the bit of extra power from those
572 cubes, and to bring her to a stop SSBC 4 wheel disc brakes are
on. Torsion bars provide the front suspension ride and leaf springs
are on the rear making for a comfortable ride that allows the
drivetrain to put power to the ground.
Drive-Ability
The dyno specs are all in the documentation, but we had to see for
ourselves, so our resident muscle car shade tree mechanic and
decoder expert took her for a spin. All was working perfectly and
his only comment when returning was "This car is one bad mu*#er
Fu*@er!"
A Charger R/T and then some touched by the hands of a passionate
restorer who has a need for speed and penchant for power. Nearly
perfect in every way, right out of the showroom, then to the
restorer who only made it better, by a quarter mile!
