Only made for 3 years total. The Jeep brand mostly catered to the
utilitarian market-farmers, foresters, workers. They wanted to
cross over into the automobile market. They meshed design from the
Jeep and convertible cars, then added some deluxe features. It was
a sports car for the veterans. Today they are sought after because
of the fun factor. It's a good looking convertible that's practical
to use. This one was restored to good condition about 20 years ago
and not used much since.
EXTERIOR: It presents itself very well. The body is solid, no signs
of rust. The two tome paint is glossy. Up front it has bright
chrome bumper and bumper guard. The grill trim headlight bezels,
hood latches, door handles are all good. The aluminum step plates
look like a fun way of climbing into the back seat. In back it has
a spare tire with a cover. The rear bumper is bright. To dress them
up each Jeepster came with white walls, hubcaps and trim rings. The
white convertible top is in nice shape. It has a complete set of
side curtains too.
INTERIOR: These was considered to be decked out with vent windows,
visors, cigar lighter, locking glove box and a very deluxe steering
wheel. This one even has an original radio. The seats fold flat in
back for plenty of cargo space. The passenger seat flips forward
for easy access to the back seat. storage in the back The lower
front seat has splits. The rest is in good shape. It has carpet on
the floor. The dash is paint, gauges are very clean, steering wheel
is beautiful.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Very clean and tidy. Original 4 cylinder Jeep
motor runs smooth. The manifolds have been ceramic coated. All the
components like the carburetor, fuel pump, generator, starter and
distributor look fresh. The wiring was replaced with correct cloth
wrapped wires, relays and regulator look new.
UNDERSIDE: Underneath this Jeepster is very respectable. It was
painted black, metal looks solid. Upfront it has a transverse leaf
spring, shocks look new. In back it has dual leaf Springs, shocks
look new. Bottom of the motor is clean. It has original manual
3-speed with overdrive. It has a stainless steel exhaust with
Mangaflow muffler.
Everything about it says fun, even the name Jeepster is a fun word.
Seats 4, I bet you could pile in 6. What kid, or adult, wouldn't
want to climb up those step plates. It's called a phaeton because
it has a back seat, top goes down and has side curtains for
windows- it is adventurous. Perfect vacation home vehicle. With
prices soaring on Blazers, Broncos and Jeeps, this Jeepster is a
great value.
