2017 Mercedes-Benz added a new base model that uses a detuned
version of the existing twin-turbo V-8, a new AMG Aerodynamic
package, and R03 Cup Tires can now be ordered with the AMG Dynamic
Plus package. Vehicle Summary The Mercedes-AMG GT was developed by
the automaker's in-house tuning company to be the fastest, most
performance-driven model in its lineup. Available only as a coupe
for the 2017 model year, this two-seat sports car will have a
roadster variant for the 2018 model year. Overview The Mercedes-AMG
sports two versions of the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, a 456-hp,
443-lb-ft version in the base GT and a 503-hp, 479-lb-ft of torque
version in the GT S. Both versions route power to the rear wheels
through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and achieve an
EPA-rated 18/22 mpg city/highway. The AMG GT and GT S feature a
standard hand built 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, electronic
limited-slip differential, available AMG Performance exhaust
system, AMG Performance seats, Burmester premium sound system, AMG
adaptive suspension, Mercedes' COMAND system with touchpad, and
carbon-ceramic brakes. The AMG Dynamic Plus package, which adds
dynamic engine mounts, a widened powerband, performance-optimized,
calibrations for the steering and suspension, and an AMG
Performance steering wheel. Safety The Mercedes-AMG GT comes
standard with stability and traction control, side airbags, head
and knee airbags. Additional available safety features include a
drowsy driver warning system, Collision Prevention Assist Plus with
adaptive braking for crash mitigation, a rearview camera, and front
and rear parking sensors. A lane departure warning system and
blind-spot monitoring are also available. In Motor Trend t esting,
The AMG GT S stopped from 60 mph in a short 100 feet. What We Think
In a supercar comparison , the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S placed first
ahead of the Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911 Turbo S. Passion, lust,
excitementthis is the car we, as drivers and enthusiasts, want
every manufacturer to build. The AMG GT S was also the winner of
the coveted 2015 Best Driver's Car comparison, ahead of nine other
sports cars. By the end of the program, it grew obvious that the
AMG GT S was greater than the sum of its parts. Part Palm Springs
weekend getaway car, part mountain road menace, and part track
star, and wholly incomparable. The GT S did not fare as well in our
2016 Best Driver's Car comparison and finished mid-pack, sixth
place out of twelve highly competitive sports cars. A better
transmission, however, could help. To be fair, AMG's seven-speed
dual-clutch unit is pretty good. But pretty good isn't great, and a
faulty power steering pump kept this supercar out of the top spots.
Cool Fact The Mercedes-AMG GT S relies on a combination of a front
mid-engine layout and a seven-speed dual clutch transaxle mounted
on the rear axle. This creates a favorable weight distribution of
47 percent (front) to 53 percent (rear). Overview Engine Name
