Vehicle Description
By 1960, new investment and management had revitalized BMW and the
company introduced four new motorcycles including the R50/2. Inside
the air-cooled, overhead-valve, horizontally opposed 494cc twin,
key components such as the crankshaft and camshaft were
strengthened, hardened chrome piston rings were added, and
ventilation of the crankcase and transmission was improved.
This 1966 BMW R50/2 was fully restored by well-known BMW motorcycle
restorer Tim Stafford.
This BMW motorcycle is refinished in its rare original color of
Bristol Gray with all matching identification numbers. With only
955 miles since restoration the 494cc fully rebuilt engine starts
easily and comes to a smooth idle. The 4-speed transmission shifts
well with help from the cable operated clutch. Using the
revolutionary front dual cartridge shocks and rear swing arm
suspension this motorcycle cruises comfortably coming to a quick
stop using the drum brakes. This 1966 BMW R50/2 is in excellent
condition and will go well with any classic motorcycle owner's
collection.
