Vehicle Description
1965 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe Numbers Matching 396/425, Sold New
Gendora California LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1965
Chevrolet Corvette Coupe L78 Model-year 1965 was a banner year for
the Chevrolet Corvette with the introduction of the optional
big-block 396 CI engine and the offering of 4-wheel disc brakes as
standard equipment. Regular Production Option L78 was the 396 CI
engine that produced 425 HP at 6,400 RPM. The 396 V-8 was a stout
piece of performance engineering with a forged-steel crankshaft,
4-bolt-main bearings, 11.0:1 compression ratio, impact
extruded-aluminum pistons and solid-lifter valve train. If you
ordered the L78 engine, you were obliged to purchase "mandatory
options" that included a close-ratio M21 Muncie 4-speed
transmission, K66 Transistorized Ignition and G81 Positraction rear
end. The big-block engine also came with an upgraded F40 suspension
in the form of thicker anti-sway bars and higher-rate front springs
to compensate for its 150 additional pounds of weight. This 1965
Chevrolet Corvette Coupe is complete with a matching-numbers L78
396/425 HP big-block engine is an extremely well preserved example
with only 55,887 miles showing on the odometer. Sold new at Davies
Chevrolet in Glendora, California, in October 1965, this is a
late-production example with a July 1965 build date. The car has
spent the majority of its entire life garaged in the arid climate
of Southern California. This stunning car is also equipped with the
optional N32 Teakwood steering wheel and the U69 Delco AM-FM radio.
The 1965 Corvette L78 will always be very special as they were the
first big-block Corvettes, and the only 396ci powered Corvettes to
ever be produced. This survivor L78 Corvette is perfect for the
collector who appreciates originality and preservation. Additional
