Circa 1958, Ford launches its all new Fairlane with an
unprecedented road trip around the globe testing the durability and
comfort on some roads that have changed little since the Roman
empire. Fords new frame, referred at the time as the "Inner Ford",
had a new wide-base design that lowered the center the Gravity for
greater stability. New Ball-Joint front suspension took the bounce
out of the bumps, and Even-Keel rear suspension combined softer
action with level-ride control. Also new for 1958 was the
Interceptor V8 engine, new Cruise-O-Matic Transmission an
Magic-Circle steering. At the time, there was nothing newer in the
world than the Ford Fairlane. The Fairlane was offered in many
configurations including: 2-door Hard top, 4 Door Sedan, Station
Wagon and the ultra rare and desirable Skyliner.

Skyliner Retractable 2 Door Hard top. The Skyliner Retractable is
the rarest model built in the Ford Line. The car offered here
features what appears to be its original 352 CID Interceptor V8
engine, 4 Barrel Carb, Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission,
Magic-Circle power steering, and rear wheel drive. Much of the
interior appears to be original including the door panels, dash and
gauges as well as the glass. The headliner has recently been
replaced and so have the hubcaps. The retractable Hardtop functions
correctly in both directions and has recently been serviced(see
video). Mechanically, the car runs and drives very well and is a
very classic driver that can be immediately enjoyed. The car has
also recently had all new hoses installed. The exterior has
recently been repainted and shows very well.
The 1958 Ford Skyliner Retractable is one of the unique innovations
in automotive history. This combine with their style keep the cars
among the favorites among Ford enthusiasts and is considered and
will remain extremely collectible and a great investment. There
have been documented sales of these cars selling will in excess of
