For Sale: 1956 Ford Fairlane in St. Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

For sale at the St. Louis Car Museum is a 1956 Ford Fairlane Sunliner that is now being brought to the market after 30+ years of ownership. This classic Ford is also loaded with great options! These include air conditioning, power steering, power top, power seat, large bumper overriders, wire wheels covers, continental kit, and more! A very special car in a very sharp, factory color combination!

History About Ford's Fairlane Model:
Ford said it best in their 1956 advertisement, "Here's distinction wherever you go." Buyers were wealthy and demanded style, options, and ease of drivability, all without a sacrifice to comfort or reliability. As a result, it was customary for Fords to have cushioned rides, big V8 power plants with automatic transmissions, and many power-assisted accessories as optional equipment. None did it better than their premier model, the Fairlane. It could be purchased in any body style, with your choice of a 6-cylinder or V8 engine; with the Thunderbird 312ci V8 coming available in 1956! The Fairlane was indeed "distinct" showcasing beautiful chrome body trim allowing for the availability of gorgeous two-tone paint schemes!

About Our Ford Fairlane Sunliner For Sale:
Available in St. Louis, MO is a 1956 Ford Fairline Sunliner Convertible finished in its code-correct EN- Colonial White & Mandarin Orange two-tone combination, over correct and complimenting BG- White/Orange vinyl interior. It comes powered by its original 312ci V8 and Ford-o-Matic automatic transmission and 3.22 rear axle ratio, and continues to run and drive just wonderfully today! This beautiful Ford Fairlane example is absolutely loaded with options that include vintage Frigette under-dash air conditioning, Master-Guide power steering, 4-way power seat, town and country radio, power convertible top, rear continental kit, bumper extensions and overriders, wire spoke wheels covers, stainless rocker trim with rock guards, door handle paint protectors, dual outside mirrors, fender skirts, reverse lights, Wilko exhaust deflectors, under hood work light, trumpet horns, LifeGuard padded dash and visors, and See-Clear windshield washer system!

The early production Fairlane, seen here, was constructed July 16th, 1955 at the Long Beach, California assembly plant, and likely spent much of its early life out west. It would later be located by longtime Ford collector and restorer, Albert MacEwen, in the early 1980's and begin a voyage back to his Ontario, Canada garage to be sympathetically restored. With the engine and interior removed, he would commence a professional, photo documented restoration of all painted surfaces. Only a few small areas appear to have been treated for minor rust concerns; it would then be sealed, primed, and painted in its original color palette!

The engine and transmission would be resealed completely, then highly detailed to original Ford specification! The interior upholstery would be restored comprehensively, with a special attempt to retain as many original components as possible. So, it should be noted the rear seat bottom does display some seam separation on the passenger side. The convertible top hydraulics, top material, and weather seals were replaced for new. And most of the exterior chrome was re-plated, and all stainless bright work fully polished before going back on the car.

This beautiful Fairlane example would be finished and shown avidly in the Ontario, Canada area from 1984 forward, accumulating many trophies and, in our opinion, become the favorite in MacEwen's collection. Sadly, Al passed away in 2014 after a lengthy battle with cancer, maintaining possession of this special Fairlane for over 30 years. He had made arrangements in advance for his three collector cars to be donated to the Canadian Transportation Museum and Heritage Center based in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada. So in 2015, they would go on display, and just earlier this year, we were given the opportunity to purchase and bring his entire collection back to the United States to be resold to new owners.

Upon arrival to the St. Louis Car Museum & Sales, our talented service staff completed a comprehensive mechanical inspection. Our expert repair team elected to perform the following services: flushed entire fuel system from the gas tank forward, rebuild the original Ford teapot carburetor with fresh vacuum lines, install all new drive belts, new battery, fresh spark plugs & wires, retrofitted a/c to R134a and charged to be in full working order, new front & rear brake hoses, brake fluid flush, new engine oil & oil filter, replaced the valve cover gaskets, all new shocks(4), sway bar link bushings, driveshaft u-joints, and lubricated the entire chassis.

This is a stunning Fairlane Sunliner example that truly rides the road quite well, and would be an excellent vehicle to show proudly at local car shows, as well as, Ford events! Included in the sale will be new door and kick panels for future use, convertible top boot cover, and the 1980's restoration pictures in a binder.
