These cars were built to be driven. They have big power, big torque and a big car feel. The open road is the home of the Toronado.
This car spent almost its entire life in North Dakota. If you have been there, you know it is nothing but open road! Yet, it didn’t get driven all that much. The odometer reading is 01120. An oil change sticker indicates that the odometer recently passed 99,999. When you see the condition of the car, you will think it was driven even less.
This car has never been rusty. When I bought it, the Provincial White paint was completely original. The hood and deck lid showed quite a bit of lacquer shrinkage, so we had them refinished. We had any stone chips touched up, too. Otherwise, the rest of the car is still wearing its original clothing and it looks great. I am convinced that this car spent most of its life in a garage. The condition of the original black vinyl top is amazing. The interior is spectacular.
The interior is completely original. The carpet has not been replaced, yet it is not faded. The black cloth upholstery is basically flawless. The dash and package tray look like new. The door panels are exceptional. The owner of this car offered it great care and must have been very meticulous. I am amazed at the quality of this 53 year old car.
The 425 cubic inch Rocket V8 starts and runs great. Recently, the carburetor and distributor were replaced due to an unsolvable flooding issue. It turned out that the fuel return line was plugged. After correcting this problem, the engine runs very well. Amazingly, the Air Conditioning blows ice cold and it still has R12 Freon in the system.
In addition to the Air Conditioning, this car has power steering and brakes. It only came with an automatic transmission and front wheel drive. As the Deluxe model, it has twin inside door handles, which allows the back seat passengers to open the doors. The other features are Soft Ray tinted glass, pushbutton AM radio and Deluxe seat belts. As a Deluxe model, it doesn’t have many options. It does not have power windows or locks or tilt steering.
The tires were replaced recently and are of the proper size. The window whiskers were also replaced. We drove this car at 80mph and it is extremely smooth, handles well and is super quite. There is almost no road noise.
Let me tell you, this car is very happy at 80mph. It was designed for the open road and it performs like it. The engine has great power and lots of torque. I expect that comes at the price of high consumption of premium gasoline.
This car has the original spare tire, jack and lug wrench. It wears its original hubcaps. There is an Owner’s Manual and two sets of keys.
All features function properly. There are no defects to disclose. Not only does this car look and perform well, but it is obvious that maintenance has been tended to. Yes, the headlight doors work as they should.
The bumpers look almost like new. Were they replated? I can’t tell if they were. All emblems, lights and bezels are in wonderful condition. While I wouldn’t classify this as a Show Car, I would certainly encourage the next owner to proudly display it at any local show or Cruise Night.
Most importantly, I would encourage you to drive it. This car was meant for the open road and it is ready to be enjoyed.
