1954 OLDSMOBILE SUPER 88 2DOOR COUPE SEDAN with HYDRA-MATIC Total Documented Financial Investment $55,528.26
This beautiful 1954 Oldsmobile 2 door sedan was purchased by its current owner in September 2014 in barn-yard condition showing 67,000 miles. Over the past 6 years the car has been completely restored by the current owner adding all the features of an original Super 88 / Rocket 88 at a total investment cost of more than $54,000. The engine is the original Rocket 88, 324 cui, 185hp. Current mileage 72,492. It is a great driver, in excellent condition with the following work having been done in the last six years:
Completely gutted the inside of the car replacing all floor pans and chemically treated any and all random rust. Painted all metal inside car including dash to factory colors. Re-upholstered seats, carpet, headliner, door panels and trunk to original materials and color. Completely replaced and rebuilt the suspension system including all new springs front and rear as well as all steering rods, bushings, tie bars etc. Installed power steering unit and connected with new hoses. Replaced the hydraulic brake system with a power brake system from Summit including new disc front brakes & new rear shoe brakes. Replaced the original heating unit with Old Air Products heating and air conditioning system. Also replaced radiator fan with electric fan to assist with the increased cooling requirements of air conditioning. Installed electronic ignition system thereby replacing the points for reliable, better starting and performance. Using the Street Rod Bracketing system especially designed for the 324 cui engine, replaced the 30 amp generator with a 100 amp alternator. This also allowed for an upgrade to the power steering pump and mount for the Sanden air conditioning compressor. The system provides for turnbuckle adjustment of all three belts. Installed dual exhaust system with glass pack mufflers to increase engine horsepower and performance. Installed electric windshield wipers, backup lights and LED headlights. Replaced all tires including spare with new 15” radial whitewalls. Replaced 2 barrel carburetor and intake manifold with 4 barrel Rochester carburetor and new intake manifold. Replaced hood and trunk emblems and added appropriate super 88 emblems - all originals.
All of the work performed on this car has dramatically increased its safety performance and appearance. It is easy to see this is a beautiful 66 year old automobile but difficult to see and appreciate what great improvements and enhancements have been made under its skin. The car is part of the and registered in the Oldsmobile Club of America. Having taken part in many shown and competitions. All the while being a great driver to enjoy on the weekends and special events - always a conversation piece and head turner. A detailed and personal restoration of love by my now 84 year old Father-in-law....while maybe not a museum item, it is an amazing piece of history to actually be able to enjoy, appreciate and show off and enjoy.
