This is a 1961 Cadillac Series 62 convertible (not Eldorado) originally from Washington state...that’s what the title said when l got it...and I"ve had it for 15 years. I don't know much about its history...Thousands have been spent keeping it running well. I've had great fun with it and now it's time for it to be passed along.
Mechanical: The engine starts readily even after sitting a couple of weeks, runs smooth, and is free of any suspicious noises. This car easily handles CA freeway speeds and behaves well in our traffic. Over the past three years, I've done the following: all new main bearing seals, no leaks. Recent radiator rebuild, starter, generator, water, and fuel pump. Has some blow-by from the open crankcase vent system, but no smoke out the tailpipe. As far as l know the engine has never been disassembled. Run only on premium fuel. Newer drive shaft, shocks, wheel bearings, master cylinder, fine radial tires, upper front end bushings. The stainless steel muffler system is still in very good shape. The transmission was rebuilt a little over two years ago and shifts thru all four gears smoothly. No leaks. I have documentation for most of this. With the top down, at freeway speeds, it is eerily silent, with only the sound of the wheels on the pavement.
Exterior. Was repainted and new top 15 yrs ago before l bought it. Passable appearance but not a show car...leave as is or will need some repairs to a few minor bumps and bruises, some rust starting on lower panels. A recent visit to a body shop said the best sell to someone who either wants to drive as is or enthusiast who wants to repair and repaint. The top motor spins but does not retract, that just happened. The chrome is in really good condition. All exterior lights function.
Inside. All pwr windows operate. Driver and passenger glass need a replacement; new glass panels are in the trunk, along with a new spare tire. Jack stand is not complete; it needs a base. Original leather seats, front is presentable but will eventually need recovering. Pwr seat stuck. Rear seat in very good condition. Carpet very good. Radio works sporadically. Wipers don’t operate but who would drive in the ran anyway, right? Operating fuel and temp gauges, oil and gen lights. Speedo stuck at 133000. Uncertain of actual mileage.
This car is great fun. It can be driven away. Sold as is with no warranty implied or implicit.
