-Jonathan Klinger, a spokesman for Hagerty The 2016 Bloomberg
article entitled Why you should buy a Chevy Corvair right now that
quoted the Hagerty spokesman above, continued: It's difficult to
find a group of owners as devoted to their chosen collectible as
those who love the Corvair. The cars are in movies, at low-rider
rallies... and in Jay Leno's garage. Across the Corvair's model
range, the most desirable model is the Monza Spyder Turbo. As
Bloomberg explained, ... the turbo-charged engines in later models
and compact bodies made them seem faintly foreign, more like
something from Wolfsburg, Germany, than from Motown. Corvair
advertisements put it this way: It hugs the road like it's in love
with it, steers precisely, responds swiftly to finger or foot. In
fact, there just isn't another production car made in this country
to compare with it. This 1963 silver-blue Monza Spyder Turbo is an
excellent-condition example of what really is a historic and iconic
American automobile. Showing just 18,000 miles on its odometer and
with all data tags affixed by the factory still in place, this
Monza Spyder is a true collectible. The car's exterior silver-blue
paint is in very-good-to-excellent condition overall. Bespoke
Spyder badging on the car's flanks and front fascia, and Corvair
emblem on the trunk are present and in excellent unrestored
condition. Wheels wear full-cover-hubcaps in a wire-wheel style
with simulated knock-off caps identified with Corvair logos.
Thin-whitewall Goodyear tires, correct for the period, are mounted.
Chrome work on the grille, quad-headlight surrounds, bumpers,
windshield frame, lower-body-side trim, front and rear bumper
over-riders, lower rear-valance louvers is well maintained, shiny,
and largely un-pitted. Even the lip-protector below the gas-filler
cap shows well. Headlight lenses are clear, as are the lenses for
the jet-aircraft-inspired four taillights. The white fabric
convertible top has been recently replaced. The car's interior
features blue vinyl throughout including vertical narrow-pleated
lower seat upholstery, with a tufted square-panel design above.
Turquoise carpeting is in place with the car's factory rubber
protective floor mats included in the sale. The dash shows a
distinct European flair with round gauges-including a
tachometer-grouped in a silver-painted face (showing mild surface
deterioration). The steering wheel is original to the car and
displays Chevrolet-logo turbocharged badging. Simple pull controls
and switches-including for the power top-complete the dash. The
factory-original Chevrolet-branded AM push-button radio is mounted
lower-center, below the dash in its stock position. The car's
floor-mounted shifter features the 4-speed shift pattern on the
knob. Under the hood, in the trunk, and underneath the entire car,
condition is excellent. The front trunk is clean and orderly
showing small areas of light surface rust. The original glass GM
KleenView windshield-washer bottle is in place. In the rear, the
engine bay is complete with all components properly located. The
air-cooled 2.4-liter flat-six engine is very clean with the
turbocharger still wearing its factory 150-horsepower sticker.
Viewed from below, the chassis elements-including the independent
suspension, floor pans, transmission, and door bottoms-all show no
damage and virtually no rust. We expect and invi
