car until he passed away in 2002. The car was passed on to his son
who placed it in storage until 2018Launched in February 1967,
Pontiacs sporty new Firebird might have shared its basic
architecture with Chevrolets Camaro, but it featured distinctive
styling, set-back engine placement and standard rear traction bars.
For the final model year of the original Firebird generation in
1969, styling updates included a body-color Lexan nose and narrower
front bumper. As before, the Firebird 400 was the performance
leader, packing a 330 HP W66 V-8 as standard, with the Ram Air III
and Ram Air IV mills, rated 335 HP and 345 HP respectively,
optional. Only 499 Ram Air III engines were built by Pontiac for
use with automatic transmissions for 1969; of them, it is estimated
that fewer than 60 Firebird 400 convertibles were built with this
drivetrain. Custom ordered in Code 76 Daytona Goldenrod Yellow,
this rare factory HO/Ram Air III Firebird 400 convertible retains
its matching numbers engine, documented with photographs. The
seller states the original owner kept the car until he passed away
in 2002, at which time the car passed to his son, who stored it
until 2018. The handsomely detailed and presented product of a
frame-up rotisserie restoration completed in 2019, this Ram Air
III-powered Firebird 400s features include a Turbo 400 automatic
transmission, 3.55 Safe-T-Track rear end, Power Disk brakes, a
