Most of us know that the C3 or third generation of Vette was made
from 1968-1982 with a wide variety of engine and transmission
options to not only try new things but to also abide by the new and
upcoming government regulations when it came to safety and fuel
economy and throw in a recession with out of control fuel
prices....well, you can say that this period of automotive history
can be looked at as grim. However, Corvette got a boost when it was
asked to be the sponsor or track car at the Indianapolis 500 for
1978. They built 6,502 Pace Car editions for that year. This
particular car is 3,115th built, so pretty much center of the
production. This particular car has traveled just 380 miles since
it was delivered to Lewiston Auto Co. in Lewiston MN which is still
to this day a Chevrolet store. In fact, I reached out to the dealer
President, Lyle Nienow who not only ordered the car himself which I
have a copy of the order he sent to Chevrolet on 1/9/1978 but also
still remembers the car as he kept it on his show room floor for
about twelve years. At that time he decided to sell the car and it
was sold to a Northern Michigan collector with 380 miles on the
odometer on 7/11/1990. 1/10 of a mile has been put on the car since
from being loaded on to a flat bed to my facility. Yes, the car got
covered and put in a garage on the gentlemans property. The car
started after a battery, some fresh fluids and fuel. We have not
driven the car at all as it should be properly gone through. The
brake pedal goes to the floor and the throttle cable is sticky but
the car runs very nicely considering. The car has held up well with
obvious signs of a 42 year old automobile that has had really no
attention thrown at it in the last 30 of those. There are still
cob-webs underneath but also is the wax markings from the factory
which is always fun to see. The interior is in good condition with
some carpet shrinkage which is pretty common in these low mileage
cars. Included in the sale is the build sheet, new car warranty
information in 1990....Yes, sold as new 12 years after it debuted.
This is a one family owned vehicle. I have several promotional
items from the dealer like posters, stadium foam seat with poncho,
owners manual and other items. This is a time-capsule of a car and
belongs in a collection. If you have any specific questions or
would like further pictures of something we missed, do not hesitate
to call us.
