Willys-Overland began development of the CJ Civilian Jeep, in
preparation for a postwar return to civilian auto production. A
constant in an ever-changing world, the CJ was relentlessly

generations under four corporate parents including Willys, Kaiser,
American Motors (AMC) and ultimately Chrysler in 1987. Developed
and initially sold under AMC, just prior to Chryslers 1987
acquisition of the company, the redesigned Jeep Wrangler YJ marked
a revolution with new styling and enhanced on-road performance
while retaining the Jeeps legendary off-road capabilities. While
only mildly restyled, the 1997-2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ was
comprehensively updated where it counted most underneath,
delivering better riding characteristics, lower noise, and greater
