Vehicle Description
There's a hierarchy when it comes to 1965 Ford Mustangs, and for
the performance lovers, the K-Code HiPo 289 is king. So finding an
ultra-desirable fastback that has been preserved and restored to
show-ready standard is absolutely awesome. This significant classic
even comes with outstanding documentation.
Collectors know a K-code Mustang is in the one-percent rarity range
of total pony car production from the first few years. So these
high-performance coupes are always in high demand. That's why it's
extra special to find a well-done one. The panels line up nicely,
which adds to a proper presentation of the factory-correct Code J -
Rangoon Red. There have been the correct investments in this coupe
along the way to keep it both looking correct and well-respected.
So for example, the paint was resprayed about 10 years ago, but
it's condition would make some 2020 restorations jealous. The
brightwork is complete and straight on everything from the
mirror-like chrome bumpers to the correct high-performance 289
badges. We particularly like how this one retains a classic-style,
but it still knows how to announce its extra performance with the
right period-correct features. There's a GT-style dual exhaust
setup and the styled-steel wheels are Mustang icons. Plus, the
double redline tires are nice performance pieces that also
coordinate with the paint.
There's even more period-correct distinction when you open the
door. It starts with the cool red and white combo. The trim tag
tells us this is factory-correct, and the two colors are quite
striking as they interweave throughout the interior. It's
especially nice in the details, like the red seatbelts against the
white upholstery. And just like the exterior, this all looks clean
and complete. Vintage fans will love details, like the working
courtesy lights, wood-like trim, and the AM radio that's there for
display. Performance lovers will be instantly attracted to the
center console with floor shifter, wood-rimmed chrome steering
wheel, and the desirable Rally Pac tack and clock mounted on the
steering column.
As much as you'll love the interior and exterior, it's the rare
K-code HiPo 289 cubic-inch V8 under the hood that will truly
impress. After all, it's the motor that took home the trophies
around the globe, and the presentation today has a great look,
right down to the decals. While Ford didn't do numbers-matching
criteria in 1965, this car has a known history, and the motor is
believed to be original to the car. The V8 inhales deeply from the
four-barrel carb, and it was even recently overhauled and tuned by
Champion Carburetor to keep this HiPo pony running right. Even the
undercarriage photos show you the comprehensive care and
investments in this coupe. You see it everywhere from the correct
red oxide underside paint to the fresh suspension components that
give you confidence when driving this classic. And the H-pipe dual
exhaust combines with the control of the four-speed manual
transmission to make you the conductor of a high-power symphony
while you enjoy this fastback to its fullest.
The sale come complete with the original window sticker, owner's
manual, documenting photos, receipts, owner history info, and more.
