Vehicle Description
1996 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
After decades of getting its ass kicked by Italian and German
imports, the Corvette had officially returned to the point where it
could at least offer them a little competition with the C4
generation. With this return to dominance comes the return of a
more traditional crossed flags emblem. The checkered flag remained
on the left, a Chevrolet bowtie on the right, with a circular
border.
I feel like I'm dreaming for this consignment, as I see white
fiberglass, white canvas, shiny turbine styled wheels, a hint of
red striping, and a red interior. Heavenly to say the least with
this low mileage example of the 1996 C4 Corvette. It's all coming
back to me now so read on for the wake up call!
Exterior
All clean, sparkling and ready to celebrate, Arctic White drapes
this last year Gen 4 model. Paint is in good condition, and badging
shows correctly. With its rubberized body matching crash bumpers,
this car is virtually devoid of any chrome, and just badging shines
brightly against the white. A slight flashback to the roots of the
early 50's with the front quarter "intake" venting just behind the
front wheel well. For some excitement to this dream, add-on some
dual wide red stripes bordered with fine pin striping on the hood
and trunk lid, we are now getting a bit racy in our visions. A
pristine heavenly white canvas top with clear rear glass tops this
vision of rem sleep. Standard polished aluminum multi swept back
spoke turbine style wheels are noted on all 4 corners.
Interior
Amazingly red leather dominates the snazzy interior that features a
semicircular instrument panel that is digital/analog combination,
and shows in orange background with black LCD digits and lines.
This all floats in a field of jet black. Noted is the actual
mileage of 61,769 miles. Controls for power seat adjustments, a
large glovebox and the shift lever are within the console. It rises
to the dash and houses the digital radio, digital readout temp
controls a large center screen digital display which is essentially
a cluster of warning (idiot) lights. Black races with red making up
the matching door panels, and within the armrest are power windows,
and power locks. A red carpeted extra storage area is noted behind
the supple buckets.
Drivetrain
A 350ci LT-1 V8 which is electronically fuel injected, is connected
to a 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission. A 2.59 rear axle is
attached. Visually the engine bay and engine are very clean with no
corrosion on any bolt ons.
Undercarriage
No rust, nice components, solid fiberglass tubs, and all looking
good underneath as to structure. Independent SLA forged-aluminum
upper and lower control arms and steering knuckle, transverse
monoleaf springs, steel stabilizer bar, and spindle offset for the
front suspension and for the rear, independent five-link design
with tow and camber adjustment, forged-aluminum control links and
steering knuckle, transverse monoleaf springs, steel tie rods,
stabilizer bar, and tubular U-joint aluminum driveshaft. WOW!
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and solid runner with rail like handling, neck
snapping acceleration, and quick smooth shifting for the automatic.
All functions are looking fine as is also the interior is very
clean, and well detailed. I did find the radio turns on but nothing
comes out of it?
Heaven, I'm in heaven, and my heart beats so that I can hardly
speak...White on white with red stripe, and eye popping red leather
interior with just a hint of black accenting and clean as a
whistle. Uber handling suspension, and the LT-1 V8 EFI, and you
will think you died and went to heaven right here in our hallowed
halls of Classic Auto Mall. A perfect Christmas present for the
wife with the white on white..(HINT!)
