Vehicle Description
A 1976 International Scout II Rallye is already an interesting
treat. But when you see an exciting example that gives you V8
power, an A/C interior, and a cool pickup body (while still
retaining the removable hardtop) you know you're looking at
something truly special that won't stick around here long.
We love International Harvester Scouts a little more than the other
convertible 4x4s out there just because you know they represent old
school toughness. After all, you had to get them from the same
dealer that was selling robust industrial equipment. And this one
seems to represent that feeling perfectly. It looks like a rugged
machine with its tall stance, trailer hitch rear bumper, and a
rugged front bumper with bull bar, KC lights, and integrated winch.
The full truck bed has been given liner paint to keep it useful,
and the full roll bar with extra KC lights adds both style and
substance. Even the removable hardtop was given added robustness
thanks to its liner paint coating. More than just usefulness, they
made an investment in flair. The burnt orange paint is a more
modern respray, and so it has a clearcoat finish that loves to
radiate in the great outdoors. And the full stripe package of this
Rallye edition has a cool style and it coordinates with all the
other black accents of this truck.
The interior is a well-done mix of vintage and new. After all,
those high-back bucket seats have the kind of bolstering that no
one was giving you in the 1970s, but they still left a
classic-style jump seat in the middle. The stitching on the new
seats gives this a nice intricate pattern, and they even upgraded
the door panels and dash pad to make the full package look
well-integrated. The dash has a vintage look with all the correct
gauges, and there's even a classic AM/FM radio there for display.
The steering wheel is an upgraded sport unit, but they added a
classic Scout center cap to give the modern grip a vintage look.
Best of all, this has a dealer-installed air conditioning system,
and it's still blowing nice and cold.
International's own 304 cubic-inch V8 means a unique presentation
with the bold red block, and it also provides plenty of power on
tap. It's a strong-runner that makes a sweet sound out of the dual
exhaust. The V8 is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission
for easy driving. Plus, the power steering, power brakes, and front
discs add to this feeling. The Scout's four-wheel drive system is a
stout two-speed transfer case that connects to Dana axles at both
ends. So, while this might look like a great original vehicle for
Sunday cruising, just know that this one also has the right combo
for true 4x4 toughness. But no matter where you drive it, this
old-school 4x4 draws a crowd. In fact, Scouts hit that perfect
sweet spot where they are not a common sight, but there were enough
produced that you don't have to worry about finding spare
components.
You've always admired that cool adaptability where this Scout is
just as comfortable out camping in the wild, as it is as a
convertible cruising the boulevards. So when you can find that in a
rare Rallye pickup, then you know you have to act fast. Call
