you can have as much fun on the freeway as they've been having on
the Autobahn. €" Headline for Porsche advertisement launching the
924S Porsche enthusiasts know that adding an S to any of the
Zuffenhausen maker's model nomenclature signals something special
in the performance department. In 1987, when the 924S appeared for
its brief production run, the changes under the hood took an
already excellent-handling 2+2 sports car, and added the power it
needed to be a real Porsche. For just two model years, Porsche
replaced the pedestrian Audi-created 2-liter engine, with a
2.5-liter 4-cylinder Porsche-manufactured powerplant, the same
engine that had been the basis for the successful 944 model.
Horsepower in the 924 shot up by nearly 50% to 147, while the car's
50-50 front-rear weight distribution remained unchanged. The
result: something definitely special in the performance and
driving-experience departments. The Guards red-over-black Porsche
script 924S offered here is a well maintained, highly original,
low-mileage example ready for cars and coffee get-togethers and
road tips aplenty. The Carfax shows no accident or damage reports,
provides maintenance history, and documents a mileage inconsistency
from a 1994 entry. The car's original paper VIN/options sticker is
still attached verifying colors and equipment. The car's cosmetic
condition is excellent. Porsche fully galvanized the 924S bodies,
so there is no body rust at all. The single-stage Guards red paint
is factory-original and the most popular color-selection for the
model. A rub strip is present protecting the sides of the car from
parking-lot dings. Pop-up headlights operate as they should.
Desirable Fuchs wheels with Porsche-crest center caps and polished
rims, as seen on the 911 models of the period, are mounted with
Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 radials. All glass-including the
expansive rear hatch-black body trim, and lighting lenses are in
excellent condition. The integrated rear spoiler is un-cracked and
un-faded. Model designation and Porsche decals on the rear deck are
crisp and undamaged. Inside, the original Porsche-script upholstery
is very well maintained. The material used is known for holding up
extremely well over time. The factory steering wheel includes a
leather wrap, and the bespoke Porsche crest glove-box latch is
present. The 5-speed console-mounted shifter and its leather boot
are undamaged. A dash cap has been professionally installed.
Instruments are clear and the reverse-direction tachometer is
accurate. The factory-installed Blaupunkt Reno 2 radio is also
fully functional, as is factory air conditioning. The tilt
operation for the sunroof works as it should, as does the
hatch-release mechanism. The car's mileage is 41,600, or a
remarkably low 1,260 miles per-year, on average. The sale includes
a Covercraft cover. Under the hood, the engine bay is complete and
appropriately detailed. All components are properly installed. The
hood pads are in place but showing some degradation due to age. A
newer battery has been installed. The car starts and runs smoothly.
(Be sure to watch the short video available at the GarageKeptMotors
site for a sampling of the engine note.) The car's undercarriage
shows no damage from too-aggressive driving. The more then 160
high-definition photographs available on the Garage Kept Motors
site, together with the walk-around-and-startup video (and
damage-free Carfax report) faithfully present this 924S from every
angle, including from underneath. Th
