This handsome 280 SE 3.5 Coupe was delivered new by Normand Mayfair
Ltd of Park Lane to Anthony Charles Roy Weir, the 3rd Baron
Inverforth on 10th February 1972. It remained with him until 1981
when it was sold to its current owner of nearly forty years. During
this time, the car's impeccable service schedule has been
maintained as recommended by the factory. Records from the original
service booklet show seven visits to the supplying dealer in the
first 10 years of its life. Then in 1981, at 43,669 miles, the car
was entrusted to Mercedes-Benz specialists Schmitt Automobile
Services. A further 19 service stamps are recorded up until 2008
with Schmitt and one from Lymington Motors, also in northwest
London, in 2019 at 91,742 miles. At time of cataloging, the
odometer reads 91,850 miles.
Finished in Mercedes Red Metallic exterior with black leather
interior, the exterior panel fit and chrome work are in fine order
and the paintwork retains a lovely even finish. The black interior
is in highly original condition and looks (and smells) just right.
The woodwork is all very genuine and decently patinated.
Accompanying the car is an extremely rare black Mercedes-Benz
history folder from the 1970s, along with all books, manuals,
original service booklet and even the Phillips radio guarantee
card. This 280 SE Coupe represents a fantastic opportunity for its
next custodian and has the benefit of both superb provenance, great
service records and just two private owners from new.
