Vehicle Description

The Datsun 240Z was introduced to the US auto market in 1970 and was considered to be a true sports car with very few frills and creature comforts.  The Japanese import saw few changes through the 1973 model year, with displacement of the inline 6-cylinder powerplant increasing to 2.6L for the 1974 model year.  Beginning in 1975, the inline six grew again to 2.8L displacement and remained through the 1983 model year.

The 1979 and 1980 models were transitional years for the Z car.  The cars were branded with “by Nissan” badging as the process of moving to the global brand name began.  These cars were also completely redesigned, keeping only the driveline from previous model years.  The new design had evolved from a purposeful sports car into more of a touring car with less focus on driving and more on comfort.  While retaining a sporty design for both the two-seat and four-seat “2+2” versions, a softer suspension combined with better sound insulation, more comfortable seats and a long list of optional equipment including high end audio systems created more of a grand tourer feel.

Thanks to countless hours in the wind tunnel, the all-new body was more aerodynamic than the previous models and had significantly less drag.  This allowed performance to remain fairly consistent with previous Z cars despite an increase in weight and performance-robbing emissions standards.  The modest amount of performance lost was more than made up for by increased comfort for the driver and passenger(s).

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the car in the US marketplace, the company produced a limited-edition vehicle for the 1980 model year.  A total of 3,000 cars—2,500 gold and black and 500 red and black—were released to the public with leather interior and special anniversary trim.  The 1980 model year also marked the introduction of the T-bar roof, with removeable panels that could be stored in bags provided with the car.

Evergreen Digital Showroom offers this exceptional example of a 1980 Datsun 280ZX 10th anniversary edition for sale at a price of $34,900 USD.  We believe the mileage of just under 79,000 to be correct, but in accordance with statutes regulating Missouri car dealers the car will be sold as mileage exempt.  This is the two-seater version with a five-speed manual transmission.  Options include the t-bar roof, Hitachi cassette player, cruise control, power steering, power brakes and power windows.  The car features full instrumentation.  The wheels are color-keyed to the special 10th anniversary paint scheme.

This 10th anniversary Z car has been a part of the present owner’s portfolio for over 10 years and stored during that time in a humidity-controlled environment.  The car presents very well and is an exceptional example of a limited-edition forty year old vehicle.  To discuss this 1980 Datsun 280ZX further or to make an offer on the car, contact sales manager Steve Russell at 417-532-8000.  We will gladly assist with transportation at buyer’s expense.  Financing may be available to qualified buyers and information can be found under the “Financing” tab on our website, www.evergreendigitalshowroom.com.

NOTICE

Because of the number of vehicles we represent we cannot drive every vehicle for long distances.  These vehicles have been part of static displays for long periods of time, in some cases for decades, and are subject to the flaws and imperfections consistent with that.  While we do our best to disclose all issues we known about a vehicle in our advertising, these are old cars and something that has always worked in the past might not function properly today.  Please check the requirements of your state regarding the licensing and registration of classic vehicles and make sure the vehicle you are looking at meets those if applicable.  Unless otherwise noted, all vehicles represented by Evergreen Digital Showroom possess a clean (non-branded) title which will be provided the new buyer when purchase funds clear our financial institution.  Virtually all our vehicles are sold as mileage exempt due to their age.  We do not warranty any vehicle, nor any part of the vehicle including air conditioning systems, brake systems, electrical systems and gauges, fuel systems, accessories or powertrain components.

These are old vehicles and it is very common for them to require certain maintenance and upkeep for them to be operational.  In many cases issues with leaks may develop when being driven after a long period of not being used.  This is common, as classic cars at some point will leak fluids.  For this reason, we do not encourage buyers to attempt driving their purchase home as we cannot guarantee functional reliability of these vehicles.  We strongly encourage prospective buyers to be sure they are comfortable with these issues before purchasing a classic car.

Descriptions of vehicles represented by Evergreen Digital Showroom are intended to be informational in nature and do not in any way constitute any sort of warranty, expressed or implied.   Again, these vehicles are presented “as-is, where-is” without guarantee or warranty.  Vehicles manufactured prior to 1981 will likely not be included in the databases of companies such as CarFax and AutoCheck that provide vehicle history information to consumers.   If you have specific questions regarding a vehicle we urge you to contact us at 417-532-8000.
