Vehicle Description
Not only is this packing a 390 cubic inch V8, but also it has been
updated to tri-power! So this 1966 Ford Fairlane GTA convertible
was one of the baddest fast Fords on the road in its day, and you'd
better believe it still makes a stir today. But more than just a
big V8 brute, you'll marvel at a rare drop-top that also has a ton
of classic cruiser appeal.
The Fairlane GTA was the face of Ford racing in the '60s, and this
convertible shows off that speedy personality. After all they don't
call it racecar-red for nothing. Plus, GT fender badges, 390
callouts on the hood trim, and styles steel wheels are all
reminders of how the GTA took no prisoners on the streets. But it
also is still a premium Fairlane at heart. In fact, the drop-top
version is rare with only 4,327 produced. So you also get an
upper-class look bright wide bumpers and the shining grille as long
as the horizon. And this ideal of sporty and premium really comes
together on this one where the good-looing white convertible top
coordinates with the sporty triple rocker stripe.
The Fairlane GTA's upscale mission is particularly evident inside
with handsome pattern on the bucket seats, a center console, and
lots of chrome on the instrument panel. It all has a great vintage
look, right down to details, like the trim on the door panels and
the AM radio that's still there for display. Even the trunk has a
correct mat and a full-size spare that matches the rest of the
wheels. There's plenty of room in the back seat, and the spacious
trunk will carry enough luggage to go coast-to-coast. The large
horizontal speedometer is bright and clear, and to supplement it, a
set of auxiliary dials watching oil pressure and coolant
temperature was fitted underneath. The steering wheel is a
beautiful piece of performance art that just begs for a set of
vintage driving gloves to be wrapped around its rim. So you'll love
driving this Ford.
Performance is impressive thanks to the correctly detailed 390
cubic-inch V8 that fills the engine bay. A full originality
confirmation is near impossible with a Ford of this era, but it's
always great to tell people that a S-code car correctly has its
correct-size big motor. In fact, this one has an extra dose of
speedy style with pieces like the Cobra LeMans valve covers, bright
bracer bars, and fresh super stock plug wires. And it earns this
powerful look for a very good reason. Under the long air topper is
a triple set of dual-barrel carburetors. Ford didn't offer
tri-power from the factory, but this was an over-the-counter
upgrade back in the day, and so it makes for a very cool piece to
have now. It helps deliver a true wallop of power in this GT. The
V8 runs smooth and makes a terrific sound out of the dual exhaust.
The "A" in GTA is for the automatic transmission. Ford's C6
three-speed is great at providing comfort during the everyday
situations and stout enough to handle the full power when you're
ready to unleash the monster motor. The same goes for the power
steering and wide Hankook modern tires.
Beautiful, comfortable, and powerful, this Fairlane GTA convertible
is everything you'd expect from Ford's race-bred mid-size. This is
turn-key rapid family transit that we know is going quickly. Call
