This fully restored Opel GT is a rare example of a fastback coupe
that has been in the possession of one-family since day one.
Produced from 1968 through 1973, the GM/Opel GT utilized a steel
uni-body design with front engine and rear drive that positioned
the motor as far back as possible. Our GT was the beneficiary of a
professional 2-stage respray of original 'Strato Blue' (235). It
was professionally applied to a very straight body in 2005 and is
accented by nice chrome and 13" factory steel 'rally wheels' that
mount radial tires. The black vinyl interior is totally original
and in excellent condition. An AM/FM/cassette stereo system has
been added. The drivetrain of this GT is all-original. Power is
furnished by Opel's 1900cc 'Cam-In-Head' 4-cylinder powerplant.
This unusual design placed the camshaft in the head along side the
valves rather than in the block which allowed for short tappets and
rocker arms to operate the valvetrain. This concept was very
efficient and was manufactured in various configurations for over
30 years. Our stout 4-cylinder was totally rebuilt in 2018 with all
new internal components and sounds very strong. One non-stock
upgrade was performed - the Solex carburetor was replaced with a
Weber 32/36 package designed for the GT. The 4-cylinder is backed
by a 4-speed manual gearbox and factory differential with 3.73:1
gearing. A transverse leaf spring suspension is used in the front
with coil springs in the rear and the chassis utilizes power
disc/drum brakes. This is a very rare, very unique sports car ...
chances are none of your friends have one. This classic Opel GT has
been well cared for and the next owner will not be disappointed.
