This mostly-original 1978 second generation Pontiac Trans Am in Solar Gold (U) with vinyl camel interior was produced in February 1978 in Van Nuys, CA according to the data plate and build sheet (included). Pontiac made less than 1,500 of these Trans Am muscle cars with manual transmissions in 1978, making this a much sought-after model.
Nestled under its classic shaker hood lays a genuine numbers-matching original L78 Pontiac 400 6.6L engine generating 220 horsepower. An M-21 transmission is matched to an original Hurst 4-speed manual shifter and connects to a factory limited-slip rear end to complete this OEM well-mannered drivetrain. Optional amenities on this Trans Am include factory A/C converted to R134, power steering and power front disc brakes with rear drum brakes.
The engine underwent a complete rebuild in 2019 and has less than 500 miles on it since re-installation. The clutch was also completely rebuilt at that time and a high-performance cam was installed (all OEM otherwise). The original Rochester 4-BBL carburetor has been completely rebuilt and a refurbished radiator has been installed. The rear differential has also been rebuilt to OEM spec and new leaf springs were installed for a smooth ride and outstanding handling.
On the exterior you will see Solar Gold paint with correct SE decals. The windows are tinted glass and original Snowflake alloy wheel wrap around 245/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires with only a few thousand miles on them. The trunk includes original decals, space-saver spare and jack. The camel interior was redone in 2008 and contrasts beautifully with its classic black three-spoke T/A steering wheel and machined turned dash. All gauges are original and New seat belts with correct camel color webbing & buckles were installed in 2017. The original AM/FM 8-Track radio is available with the purchase (the radio works!), but a retro AM/FM Bluetooth Pontiac-branded stereo and new rear speakers have been installed for modern convenience and acoustics.
