This 1965 Mercury Comet is a very custom coupe with a wicked style
all of its own. With a custom paint theme, nice fuel-injected V8
power, upgraded suspension, and the control of the upgraded
five-speed, you're looking at something that's powerful, cool, and
distinctive... all for an affordable price.
Far rarer and a little more interesting than its Ford Fairlane
cousin, this Mercury Comet already has appeal. In fact, the extra
premium touches of the Mercury are great to show off like how the
headlights are integrated into the fender design, bright chrome
bumpers, and a more intricate grille. But that's just the beginning
of what makes this custom coupe special. The green paint has the
cool 1960s vibe, except they never gave you that kind of deep
metallic finish from the factory. It instantly announces this is
something quite different. So do the shaved door handles and the
full custom rear end with LED taillights. It also likes to show off
a bit of performance with vintage speedy style upgrades, like the
Cyclone-style dual scoop hood, smoothie wheels, and the rocker
stripe that matches the white roof. The rear fenders are even
custom contoured and shortened 6 inches so you can really see the
extra wide rear tires. It's all about a package that sets the tone
for people to expect something far from factory.
Pop the remote door openers for your first surprise. Yes, this
hardtop has been set up for suicide doors! And because people will
be staring at this cool custom detail, they even made sure that the
door panels continued the car's green and white theme. Once inside,
you'll see a full custom package built to be a mix of comfort and
speed. The front seats are Mastercraft racing seats. There's a
bracer bar directly behind these to mount the five-point harnesses
as well as add strength to the body. Behind these are a stylish TMI
bench. You have great features like an armrest center console, cup
holders, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM/CD stereo. This is joined by great
performance upgrades, like the Dakota Digital gauges, EFI
touchscreen controller, and a Hurst shifter with more gears than
the factory ever offered.
While the green is dominant color of the exterior, the engine bay
will be known for its bold blue. The long air topper and matching
ribbed valve covers let everyone know this is something special.
It's a 289 cubic-inch V8 built with Air Flow Research performance
heads and a custom set of headers feeding a very straight dual
exhaust. Plus, the Holley Avenger electronic fuel injection system
allows you to dial-in your ideal performance right from the
driver's seat. This motor even has the right supporting components,
like an HEI ignition and Be Cool aluminum radiator. You have the
best in control over this upgraded powerhouse with the upgraded
five-speed manual transmission. In fact, speaking of control, take
a look at the undercarriage photos. There you'll see great
upgrades, like the tubular A-arm front suspension, subframe
connector for added strength, and traction bars. There's even front
disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors for superior stropping
power.
The sale comes complete with build receipts and restoration photos.
It all proves this an awesome amount of custom build for the money.
So if you want a cool hardtop like no other, don't miss this Comet.
