Vehicle Description
A lot of guys like to keep a low profile, but some of us like to
make a grand entrance. So, if you like high performance and a whole
lot of flash, perhaps this 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu is the
smart choice. Finished in killer custom paint job that features
some unique, head-turning airbrush work on the profiles, this slick
muscle car makes a compelling case for speaking LOUDLY and carrying
a big stick.
The fender tag says it was originally code 59 Frost Lime, but that
simply wasn't enough bling for the former owners of this slick
Chevelle. No, they wanted this car to stand out everywhere it went,
so they set out to have it covered in one of the coolest custom
paint jobs we've seen in a long time. With a blue metallic finish
on top, a slick silver metallic on the bottom, and an
orange-reddish line of demarcation that matches those cool,
slashing airbrushed graphics on the profiles, this is a
one-of-a-kind muscle car with a TON of curb appeal. It's obviously
a distinctive finish that stands out at car shows, but surprisingly
enough, it still manages to be somewhat subdued. There's no gaudy
cowl hood, no silly wing out back, and they even decided to forgo
any SS stripes or badges to try to make this Chevelle Malibu into
something that it's not. This muscle car was built to have a blast,
and not have any pretense of snooty "correctness" all the experts
with handlebar mustaches seem to clamor over these days. The
sheetmetal is straight, the gaps are great, and there's no bad news
waiting for you underneath all that paint. The bright colors
complement each other nicely, and out in the sunlight, the finish
really highlights the A-body's awesome shape; just check out the
way the body glows in the side profile shots. It's still wearing
all its correct badges and trim, which are in very good condition,
and it's always refreshing to see one with bright chrome on the
bumpers, grille, and window surrounds, but not much more. That way,
the custom paint job can do all the talking.
Checking the cowl tag, you can see why they decided to upgrade the
interior from green to black, and the monotone setup is a perfect
complement to the wild exterior. It's obviously been restored, but
they kept the original-style bench seat in place, which is how most
of these cars came from the factory. The original SS-style gauge
bezel is still ahead of the driver and covers all the engine's
vitals, while beyond it is a later-model Bowtie steering wheel
that's joined on the column by the shifter for the automatic
transmission below. Plush black carpets below, stock door panels at
the flanks, durable seat covers, and even seat belts make it feel
fresh and clean inside, with a comfortable, all-together feel
that's a perfect contrast to the attention-grabbing exterior. The
factory A/C with R134a refrigerant works well in the vintage
Chevelle, and the AM/FM/Cassette radio is in the factory slot in
the dash, although it's ready for an upgrade soon. Out back, the
trunk is neatly finished with spatter paint and the pans are quite
clean thanks to a lifetime of easy-living, and it carries a full
size spare tire.
The 350 V8 small block under the hood is running great with a few
extras to deliver a fairly serious punch when you nail the
throttle. When it was built, they obviously dressed it up to match
the bodywork with plenty of chrome and polish components under the
hood, with polished ATK High Performance Engines valve covers, a
chrome open-element air cleaner, and even a chrome cover on the
radiator shroud. There's quite a bit of new hardware, including a
Holley 4-barrel carburetor, Summit aluminum intake manifold,
long-tube headers, and bright red plug wires from the HEI
distributor that add a dash of contrast. Underneath, it's very
clean, with a slick-shifting TH350 3-speed automatic transmission
with a TCI pan that's driving a 10-bolt rear, which is a perfect
set-up on a small block car. The exhaust system features long-tube
headers and a newer dual exhaust system with an H-pipe and
Flowmaster mufflers with turndowns under the rear bumper for a
great sound. 20-inch Boss Motorsport rims are the right choice for
a car this flashy and carry staggered 255/35/20 front and 275/35/20
performance radials that fill the fenders perfectly.
