Vehicle Description
1965 Ford Cobra Factory 5
Technology has consistently delivered more value and a lower price.
The same general principles should apply to component cars. The
application of new technologies in an old-world industry is what
sets the Factory Five company apart from the crowd. Computers and
CNC technology are the foundations on which the Factory Five
revolution was built. They design their chassis parts, production
tooling, and body shapes with the latest CAD/CAM technology. They
use SolidWorks computer design software and HP hardware to design
all of their cars. Computer-based technologies drive everything
they do, including design, pre-production quality assurance, pilot
production, product bill of materials and packing lists,
manufacturing cut lists, CNC laser cutting, robot trimming, and
welding.
For consignment, this beautiful bronze Factory Five Cobra. Complete
with side pipes, a roll bar, and many other goodies that emulate
the original but at a budget that most can take on and have a
really cool driver.
Exterior
All fiberglass, all beautiful bronze and all buttoned up this car
shows well. Save the bumpers and just the pushers in front and
back, please we don't need the extra weight. A wonderful stance
with a combination of the flared fenders which gracefully frame
cast 15-inch wheels with center chromed knockoff hubs, and wrapped
in Cooper rubber, and add a hood scoop and we are left in a bronze
fog. Add in some matte black side pipes which snake along the
rockers, a blackened roll bar, and a racing hinged rear quarter gas
cap.
Interior
On the dash we see Autometer gauges in what would have been close
to the original CSX layout. These are embedded within a plush
padded black textured vinyl dash front. Nicely chromed bezels are
encircling black faced gauges with white indicators and numbers and
letters. All this fronted by a wood rimmed steering wheel. Black
vinyl bomber style buckets float in a sea of black carpet all good,
and sport Simpson 4-point safety harnesses. A wide console races
through these seats and houses the shift lever. On top of the
semicircular curved dash top is a centrally mounted rear-view
mirror. Door panels are looking fine with a back vinyl panel
centered within the bronze fiberglass forms, and a pouch for some
extra storage.
Drivetrain
A pop of the clamshell hood, and I could have bronze envy be it not
for the 302ci V8. This mill is beautifully appointed with plenty of
polished parts, and some orange highlighting but on just for
giggles. A single 4-barrel Holley carb is atop to feed the fossils,
and on the back of this wonderfully presented mill is a 3-speed
automatic C4 transmission. Way back...the axle is an 8.8-inch Ford
rear with 3.73 gears.
Undercarriage
All clean underneath with a tubular powder coated frame, and all
aluminum floor pans. All solid and rust free it is all well done
underneath. Disc brakes are on the front, and drums the rear, and
an independent with coil over front suspension, and a 4 link with
coil overs on the rear and we are expertly planted on terra
firma.
Drive-Ability
This candle lit right up and ran strong through the entire test
drive. Snappy acceleration, good handling and our test revealed
just a little happy on the front end when applying the power. All
functions worked, and it stuck to the road like glue.
Bronze would not be a consideration in my initial mind for a Cobra,
however after seeing this example I'm hooked! Lots of smooth power
from the 302ci V8, and a clean good-looking example. Fiberglass is
all buttoned up, and an overall great driver, good handler and all
beautifully dressed in the simple interior. A definite affordable
classic ready to drive away from Classic Auto Mall, from our halls
