Vehicle Description
Over the past few years, we've certainly seen some choice
resto-mods. But this slick Impala, wrapping a hot Chevrolet
Performance small block in fully custom aesthetics, is definitely
one of the coolest! Fully sorted and ready to hit the road, this
awesome Chevy combines a solid 480 horsepower with tailored yet
aggressive swagger. And today, thanks to a meticulous rotisserie
build, not only is it a sweet place to cruise the streets, it's
also instantly recognizable muscle that could easily rule the front
row. Looking for a dreamy classic that simply has it all? This
awesome drop-top checks every box!
DRESSED TO IMPRESS
An authentic Impala Super Sport that was the subject of a
nut-and-bolt rotisserie restoration, this sweet cruiser is
definitely built for keeps. From casual glances to long looks, the
car exudes a sense of quality that comes from countless hours of
work and serious credit card bills. With straight panels and
impressive panel fitment, its body sets the standard for what to
expect from the rest of the build. There are no notable
modifications, aside from razor-sharp PPG two-stage that would've
been unimaginable in the mass-production world in 1965. And today,
roughly 250 miles out of the paint shop, this slick resto-mod is
right at home turning heads on the road OR claiming trophies at a
show.
Not surprisingly, this Chevy's unique pigment creates an excellent
foundation for a select array of mirrored bolt-ons. At the front of
the car, a polished bumper props polished guards in front of a
fully polished grille that stretches a tasteful "IMPALA SS" emblem
between clean parking lamps and bright headlights. At the top of
that grille, a streamlined Chevrolet header leads a
stainless-ridged hood, which fronts fresh glass that's planted in
polished frames, cleared by polished wipers and shaded by black
canvas. At the base of that glass, a silky profile hangs
traditional door handles and classy bowtie mirrors amid legendary
fender flags, flowing "Super Sport" scripts and polished wheel
lips. And at the back of that profile, a slim Super Sport valance
splits a second broad bumper and jet-inspired LED taillights that
frame a second Chevrolet header.
480 > 409
Scope this Chevy's two-tone engine bay and you'll find 6.2 liters
of Chevrolet Performance small block that's primed for years of
spirited cruising. Officially known as the Chevrolet Performance
LS376/480, that storied crate engine twists respectable 10.7 to 1
compression into 495 horsepower and 473 lb./ft. of torque. At the
top of the mill, a familiar K&N filter funnels wind into a
color-keyed air tube, which feeds a proven GM throttle body and a
lightweight GM intake. That air meets spark in rectangular-port
L92-style heads, which ride under pliable AC Delco plug wires. A
nodular crank, powdered connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons
compress that volatile union. A racing-inspired LS Hot Cam
maximizes intake efficiency through better breathing. Speaking of
breathing, the smooth valvetrain funnels spent gases through
factory GM manifolds. There's an aluminum radiator that's slid
between a big puller fan and a polished expansion tank. Lubrication
is supplemented with a tough Holley oil pan. And all that hi-po
hutzpah is backed by a semi shaved firewall.
CONQUER THE ROAD
Under this Impala, a body-matched chassis aligns a proven 4L60E
4-speed with a tough 12-bolt axle. That drivetrain rides a fully
rebuilt suspension that's been augmented with a big sway bar,
tubular control arms, Ridetech shocks and Ridetech Level 2 air
bags. Those components are led by fluid power steering. Stops are
provided by power-assisted Wilwood calipers, which drain a familiar
Wilwood master cylinder to cinch a quartet of drilled and slotted
rotors. At the center of the floor, custom, Mandrel-bent exhaust
pipes spent gases through an X-shaped crossover and throaty
Magnaflow mufflers. And all that mechanical goodness rolls on
chromed Foose blades, which spin 255/35ZR20 BF Goodrich g-Force
Sports.
LESS BLACK, MORE RED
Pop the doors and you'll find a choice custom interior that serves
as the perfect accent to this Chevy's sophisticated pigment.
Bolstered buckets join a refashioned bench to provide big comfort
for a family of passengers. Opposite those thrones, a glossy dash
hangs all-new wiring behind factory heat, Pioneer audio and
sophisticated Auto Meter telemetry. At the floor, premium carpet
floats thick mats between muted pedals and a custom console that's
boxed around a classy Hurst shifter. Sculpted side panels hang
billet handles in front of a full suite of power-operated windows.
And in front of the driver, a color-keyed and bowtie-stamped
steering wheel laps a tilting Ididit column.
When it comes to maximizing the amount of metal your money buys,
you simply can't go wrong with a purpose-built resto-mod. Thanks to
its exceptional attention to detail, this top dog Chevy is a great
driving piece that's fun, unique AND reliable. If you're looking
for an awesome classic that commands respect on both the boulevard
and the show field, this incredible Impala is just your style!
