TRUE BARN FIND
1968 International Scout 800 4x4
West Texas ranch vehicle. Owned almost 40 years, on blocks in a barn since about 2004.
No rust problem.
All original glass in excellent shape.
Original V8, 266 cubic inch, newly rebuilt Holley 2 bbl carburetor, all new ignition items, plugs, wires, fuel lines, air filters, fuel filters, sending units, fuel pump, starter solenoid, thermostat, new battery, and new ignition switch.
Original 4-speed transmission and 2-speed trans-axle. Complete rebuild on locking hubs.
Four-wheel drive is solid, with 4:40 rear end.
Complete new brakes all around, including new drums and all brake lines.
Factory twin fuel tanks.
Front-mount tow bar and custom rear tow bumper.
Five new 7" high-traction, period-correct, 8-ply tires on original steel wheels.
There is a good scrape on the right front fender which was added when it was being pulled out of the barn, otherwise, the body is in surprisingly good condition.
Exterior IH emblems and badges are in place and in great shape.
Also found some new parts and accessories, including four rare full-size IH wheel covers, pair of sun visors, side view mirror, taillight lenses, backup light lenses, inside door handle and window crank handle, clutch pedal pad and brake pedal pad, chrome headlight bezel (to replace one now missing on passenger side), floor-shifter boots, replacement IH steering wheel horn button, several IH emblems/badges in excellent condition, unregistered original 1968 Texas HemisFair black-and-white license plates, some other items, along with a brand new rear seat kit still unopened in the box.
This little Scout starts, stops, and drives. Wouldn't take much to make it a very nice driver. Most everything seems to work. Not many around in this condition. Replacement /restoration parts are readily available.
Excellent candidate for restoration. With the two front bucket seats re-upholstered, minimal body work, a new paint job and some cosmetic TLC and updating, this Scout can be enjoyed without having to spend a small fortune on mechanicals. Scouts are fun, simple, tough and steadily gaining in popularity as an alternative to the sky-high prices of collectable Ford Broncos.. With some TLC, drive it for fun as is or easily restore it and then watch it steadily appreciate in value. Clear Texas title in my name.
