The Chevrolet Chevette was first launched by General Motors in the
mid-1970s' in response to the federal legislation-mandated
Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards initiated after the
1973 oil crisis. With a shift in consumer demand for smaller more
efficient motor vehicles on the rise, Chevrolet answered with the
practical two-door hatchback that was well received and became a
tremendous success for GM with nearly three million vehicles sold
during its entire production across the 12 model years 1976-1988.
Powered by the reliable 1.6 liter four-cylinder the Chevette
obtained an honest 29 mpg in the city and an impressive 39 mpg on
the highway. This yellow 1979 model is in incredible survivor
condition with less than two-thousand miles on the odometer.
Features include rack and pinion steering, front disc brakes, front
stabilizer bar as well as the three-speed automatic transmission.
Inside the cabin are a pair of cloth bucket seats and much more
room in the back with the folding rear seat and expansive cargo
area. The Chevette is optioned with factory air conditioning as
