The third generation C-3 was one of the most stylish Corvette's ever produced. 1978 Corvette's 25th Birthday and Corvette was chosen that year for the Indianapolis 500 Pace car position. The production of the Indy Pace car editions were limited to 6,502 cars, one for every dealer in the country.

The Black and Silver Pace cars have a distinctive front and rear spoilers, positraction, special badging, special contoured seats, special aluminum wheels and red pin striping along with the Pace Car livery.
