For Sale: 1967 Mercedes-Benz 230SL in Essex, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

1967 Mercedes Benz 230 SL

Purchased originally in southeastern CT, this two owner Mercedes has spent all of her life in that corner of CT. The current owners purchased her in the early 80's when she was painted in the original Blue/Green color. After a minor accident in the mid 80's the car was painted in the Maroon color she currently wears.

After 40 years in the same ownership and being a fun driver for the family since then, she does show some wear and every bit of the 175,000 miles, however, she wears them well and still inspires admiration in those who see her rolling down the street.

The car came off the assembly line with several options, including code 426, a floor mounted automatic transmission shifter; 493, heavy duty heater and 508, left side rear view mirror.

The car came factory equipped with power steering, power brakes (discs in front, drums in the rear) and leather interior. The seats were reupholstered several years ago and are in great condition. The door cards and dash padding are pretty good as well. Carpets are not too bad, do show some wear but are far from tattered.

The soft top folds up and down with ease and seals well, although the the rear window has separated from the top in one small area about 3-4 inches long. The hard top disappeared a long time back.. if found it will go with the car but currently it's whereabouts are unknown.

The car has been regularly maintained and despite the 175K miles, the fuel injected M127 straight six starts right up and runs strong with just a puff of smoke upon initial start up.

Within the last several years the front brakes were done including rotors and calipers, new KYB shocks were installed and the exhaust was done (there are still two more bits in the trunk to be installed).

The body is solid and the paint shines nicely despite some chips here and there. The trunk color is slightly off as the owner dropped a car battery on it and it was replaced/repainted. These cars are known for rusting where the toe boards meet the floor boards and this car has suffered that fate. It was patched but could be done much better.

This car can be driven and enjoyed as she is. Just get out and take her for ice cream, to the cars and coffees, etc. She isn't going to take home trophies but you'll take home smiles. If you're one who likes to tinker and work on these classics, this is a great platform to build upon and these SLs are valued up to near 6 figures when done out to concours condition. Buy her, drive her and do a little bit here and there and make her better with each season.

Asking Price is $32,000
