This 1973 Land Rover 88 Series III underwent a multi-year restoration from 2017 to 2020 that included fitment of a complete new chassis, new suspension pieces, and new interior components, as well as body panels refinished in olive green and contrasted by a white roof.
All cosmetic and mechanical details were reconditioned and restored to excellent condition. Looks classic, runs great, completely redone and ready to enjoy on or off road for true adventure.
A complete chassis kit from British Atlantic Ltd.—including a new galvanized frame, engine and transmission mounts, suspension components, a steering relay assembly, and hardware—was utilized during the restoration process. Rock & Roll of Burlingame, California manufactured a replacement wiring harness and rewired the vehicle.
Power is supplied by a 2.25-liter petrol inline-four teamed with a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The gasoline-fueled motor was refurbished using a new gasket set from Rovers North. Additional replacement components sourced from Rovers North include the Weber carburetor, alternator, starter, and radiator shroud, as well as the fuel tank, pump, lines, and sender unit. Engine shows excellent compression of 130 psi across all four cylinders.
The olive green aluminum body panels were media blasted by Champion Powder Coating of San Francisco, California and were repainted professionally. We acquired some replacement panels from Rovers North of Westford, Vermont, and the top was repainted in white. Additional equipment includes sliding side windows plus a rear tailgate and upper hatch. The windshield-wiper motor and arms were replaced during the restoration. Features include white powder-coated 16″ steel wheels, side-facing rear jump seats, and a new wiring harness.
Factory 16″ steel wheels were powder-coated in white by Champion Powder Coating and are wrapped in 235/85 Kumho Road Venture tires fitted in April 2017. A spare tire is mounted on the hood. Brake service during the restoration included replacing the springs, shoes, drums, lines, and wheel cylinders.
The interior was stripped as part of the refurbishment process, and the interior panels were painted to match the body. New seats, dash, and door panels were sourced from Atlantic British Ltd. of Simi Valley, California. Replacement floor panels and kick panels were obtained from Rovers North. Additional features include replacement gearshift and handbrake boots and rubber front floor coverings.
The rugged tri-spoke steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation consisting of a 90-mph speedometer and supplemental gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows nearly 54k miles, approximately 1k of which have been added during the last 3 years; true mileage is unknown.
The cargo area features diamond-plated flooring and also side-facing bench seats with safety belts.
A solid example of a classic and collectable Land Rover model, this fully restored right-hand-drive Series III is offered with complete restoration records and comprehensive photos as well as a clean California title.
