This 1983 Jaguar XJ6 has a Corvette C7 Secret - Powered by a 455-hp gen 5, LT1 V-8
At first glance this car just looks like a perfectly restored vintage Jaguar XJ6 sedan. The original XJ6 went through three evolutions from 1968 through 1986, (gen 1 through gen 3), all looking very much alike. But a closer look reveals so much more! This 1983 Jaguar XJ6 is unlike any other. Yes, there are a few beater XJ6 Chevy conversions out there, but to my knowledge, this mint condition XJ6 is the only one with an eye popping 455 hp 6.2 L Gen 5 LT1 engine with 460 ft-lb of torque, mated to a new 8L90 eight speed transmission optionally controlled by its paddle shifters – a one of a kind. All painstakingly assembled by Velocity Customs of Las Vegas. It drives, performs and handles much like a C7 Corvette. Only a trained eye will notice that it has a more muscular stance than when it rolled out of the Coventry factory – the ultimate sleeper.
The G5 LT1 engine sends power through a beefed up heavy-duty power train by Dan’s drive lines, a special heavy duty posi unit, and its rebuilt Jaguar rear end to new Michelin high performance tires. Other features include a custom high-volume aluminum radiator & housing by Rodney Red, custom headers, oversized aftermarket brake rotors & pads, a full 3 inch stainless steel exhaust system with Borla mufflers, a super-heavy duty rear sway bar, and a painted and powder-coated undercarriage. Too much new to list, but a few of the things include starter, Auto Meter Guages, Sanden AC compressor, heater core, 4 custom heavy duty rear shocks with adjustable suspension, power steering pump, water pump, hoses & belts, Holley oil pan, new redone Gen V harness, new fuel system, battery, electric speedometer & gas pedal, etc.
The interior & headliner have been completely redone with softer than original color matched glove leather. Great pains have been taken in & out to maintain the original look. The only things not appearing “mint” original are the steering wheel with its paddle shifters, the premium sound system and the 18” XK8 Jaguar wheels. The Jaguar steel blue metallic paint, new windshield, and titanium tinted glass complete the package.
A muscle car alternative that looks innocent to the untrained eye, but it doesn’t sound or run like any other XJ6 or even any supercharged XJR. You want to be sure you’re pointed straight when you give it full throttle. This elegant Jaguar resto-mod attracts attention & respect wherever it goes, whether sitting still or in motion.
And last, but not least for those of you who are into car shows, before the current update into a state of the art European Resto-mod and back when this XJ6 had one of those old school conversions, it took third place overall at San Diego’s prestigious British Car Day in 2006 and won the People’s Choice Award at the JAGM Concourse dElegance during the Woodward Dream Cruise in 2014.
I’m in the que waiting for a new C8 Corvette and that will obviously become my “go to” vehicle. I hate the thought of this beautiful one off Jaguar with its C7 like performance package not getting used regularly, so I’m putting it out there to see if it's meant to be in the hands of someone else . . . sorry, no trades.
