Designed for Bertone by Giorgetto Giugiaro early in his long and
illustrious career, the GTV was an immediate favorite from its
introduction, initially as the Giulia Sprint GT in 1963. The
restrained elegance and perfect proportions of these cars have aged
beautifully, and the model survived for over a decade with
relatively light cosmetic changes and mechanical enhancements as
the years progressed.
3023762 was completed in March of 1974 in Amaranth Red over Black
upholstery. While its earliest history is unknown, the GTV joined
its most recent caretaker, a local Houstonian and noted Italian
automobile collector in 2016, where it would receive documented
services for continued drivability. In recent years, the car was
driven infrequently, while stowed in climate-controlled
storage.
As displayed in sporting form, much of the of the Alfa's current
cosmetic configuration appears to have been performed in years
past. The exterior displays older single-stage paintwork - in
original color, exhibiting crazing throughout the exterior's
surfaces, while touches of original paint can be seen in several
less exposed areas. Original etched side and rear glass remain
fitted. A vintage Harvard Kennedy School sticker is adhered to the
heated rear glass. Overall, the Alfa appears to have never been
restored, but rather kept up as needed. Removed bumpers, along with
a tighter stance, yellow driving lamps, and flush-mounted turn
signals offer a sporty period look, complemented by 5.5x14 inch
Campagnolo Turbina wheels. 195/70R14 tires are dated 2009.
The cabin appears to retain portions of original upholstery -
including the headliner, rear seating/surrounds, dashboard, center
console, wood trim and adornments. 78,360 miles are recorded on the
odometer.
The rear luggage compartment is fitted with correct rubber mat,
carbon cannister, and stowed steel spare wheel assembly. Its
underlying flooring appears solid. A period jack accompanies.
Factory spot welds can be seen on the nose, fenders, across the
firewall, door jambs, lower rockers, and trunk.
Likewise, the engine bay is kempt with correct auxiliaries,
firewall stamping, plaques and fender decal. A90439 retains its
Spica fuel injection and correct ignition, while the air box was
previously removed in place of K&N air filters. A Spring 2020
service included an inspection and rebuild of the Bosch starter.
The vehicle starts right up and runs with ease, a brake caliper
freshening service is recommended in the future.
